After a hilly 70 mile ride this weekend I have been out of commission due to a bruised tailbone. This is a first for me and I have been riding this distance or more for several years. I will be seeing a doc tomorrow but would love any advice from anyone who has experienced this issue.

Thanks is advance.

First, Ouch. I feel your pain.

Secondly, get your seat height/level checked. Sounds like a positioning problem.

Thirdly, bag of frozen peas. They conform to the curves better than anything else and that should releve the swelling.

I fell off some rocks and landed on another one about two months ago and had the same kind of pain. Frozen bag of peas is great advice- take it easy for awhile but still move around. It took about a week before I could exercise at all but once I started moving it felt better. Still a bit sore while doing crunches and after a long run but I think it is one of those things that takes time. Seems like everyone has some cute -pain in the-----joke for you too

Your pelvis should be tilted forward and the tailbone should be well off of the seat.

I got thinking about positioning and the possibility of bruising your tailbone while riding, and the only scenario I could come up with is sitting up tall on the seat (Maybe drinking) and hitting a very severe bump in the road so the seat compresses the tailbone......

Other than that, I am a little perplexed on how you could actually bruise a tailbone riding.

I know I've had sore sit bones after bumpy mtb rides with a stiff saddle. Getting on the saddle the next day is never fun. Typically that happens in the beginning of the season before I can get some endurance built up down there.
