As some of you may know, I signed up with Athletes for a Cure this year. It's my way of bringing attention to what I think is important. Don't worry, I'm not going to get preachy or solicit anything, I just wanted to know what other national charities are out there like this one. Here's my list:

- Athletes for a Cure
- Team in Training
- LAF
- Susan G. Komen
- Challenged Athletes Foundation
- AIDS Lifecycle

I'm primarily looking for the larger organizations... what am I missing?

Ironcops for Cancer (though a Canadian team)
http://www.ironcopsforcancer.ca/
(and fyi... 100% of the funds raised by the team go directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, unlike many that can take up to 25%, some even more :s, of the donated funds for admin fees and the like)

Leukemia is my charity focus. The Boston's Children's Hospital / Jimmy Fund.

I hope to hit my goal of $10,000. At that point I can specify the Dr whose research I'd like to support.

C Different
This is a great organization a friend of mine started a while back. I have now started working with one of the blind atheletes and we are scheduled to do our first race together in the Nautica NYC Triathlon.

I feel that it's great to support the big charities...I'm doing a charity run next weekend for the American Cancer Society, but there is a charity that is often overlooked and is the other side of the coin....Many local Hospice agency's are underfunded and in need of help...too often we focus on cures and research and forget that people die everyday from these diseases and often spend their last days at Hospice. My parents did, and hospice was the difference in making sure their end came with dignity.
If you can, consider a donation to a local Hospice.

I have been thinking about signing up to coach for Team In Training in the next year or two. I have never been involved with Team In Training but think I can help out some people with the marathon. Does anybody have any experience coaching for them and with how you go about getting certified?

Call your regional office: ph: (610) 521-8274
Even if you don't have local people to coach, it seems you might be able to help them with their Virtual Teams.

When I called the NJ office, I found they were very helpful and well organized. I'd imagine they would be able to answer your questions about certification.

Another option might be to try and contact ironmom. She does TNT coaching. I haven't seen her posting here recently but maybe through her blog.

I absolutely love raising money in correspondance with my "A" races. It gives me a bigger purpose and it makes the race so much more enjoyable. last year I raised $600 in two months for Athletes for a cure. This year my goal is to raise $1,000 for the LAF through their grassroots fundraising.

We should start a page to keep track of everyone fundraising on trifuel. I would be gald to donate to everyone that I can!!

Help me raise money for the LAF by donating anything that you can. Thank you so much!

Run For Autism (http://www.researchautism.org/news/run/index.asp) is a great charity. Started with the Marine Corps Marathon, then added Chicago. I found out about it and lobbied locally to get it added to my hometown ING MIAMI MARATHON. We've had Run For Autism at Miami Marathon three years now. Have made some initial contacts to get it added to a local Miami triathlon next year.
