I am looking to purchase a bike trainer for the house; what is a good brand/product and where could I buy 1 for a decent deal?
Thanks
-Mat

I'm not sure what price range you're looking for, but craigslist or ebay would probably have some good deals. I have a cycleops mag trainer that I got for about 100 from my local bike shop and it is noisy, but gets the job done.

Try going to performancebike.com. I got a trainer from one of their retail stores for about $100. It's nothing fancy but it works. By the way, I don't work for that company. Just passing on some advice here.

See what you've done, Chunky? Now everyone's afraid you're going to call them a spammer.

Let me be the first to recommend the CycleOps Fluid 2 (no affiliation). It's quiet & sturdy, w/ good resistance. They're a bit pricey, but you can often find them on ebay (no affiliation) or Craigslist (no affiliation). Check out the reviews in the Gear section - pretty popular.

I have had 2 Fluid Trainers so far. One a Minoura VFS and a Kurt Kinetic. I have never been happier with the Kurt. I know its a bit on the highend (check eBay thats where I bought mine) but it has by far been a fantastic trainer. And with the right workouts it will definitely help on those rainy crummy days.

If you don't want to be snubbed by the local bike shop guys for buying a $100 trainer, and you don't want to pay for shipping, I saw cheap trainers at Dick's Sporting Goods.

I know. I'm sorry. I thought I made it clear that I've changed my ways. Of course, I'd rather have people explaining that they're not spammers than getting 3 identical posts with a huge list of all the crappy bikes that some dude is selling out of his basement.

I would check craigslist as you can see exactly what you're getting, and you don't have to deal with shipping or anything like that. If you don't have a very active craigslist, or you don't like the idea of buying used, you could also check out Nashbar/PerformanceBike/Pricepoint.....Wait, sorry, I'm not a spammer. I promise.

x2 on checking the online classifieds for a couple of weeks.
I love my Cycleops Fluid 2 as well. Found it on our local online classifieds for 125 with the front wheel block. My brother got a Cycleops mag for 100 on craigslist.

Oh, and I don't work for craigslist.

I bought my Forza from Amazon.com. Works great. It's relatively quiet.

I would recommend that you check at some local bike shops. Sometimes at the end of the winter season, they look to part with some for a discount. I know that at my LBS, they have been known to discount some just because they were "floor models". Any by floor models, I mean that they have been removed from the box and placed on display for a couple of months. Good luck!
