Non standard training weeks.
For me, a recovery week still means that I still log time, just not as much. By the end of the recovery week, I feel like I've taken too much time to recover. Does that mean that my body doesn't need it? I don't know. I've thought about reducing the amount of time in the past but have never actually done it. I know there are coaches out there that don't believe in any recovery week at all. I could not remain injury free if I took this route. I'm curious to see what your results are from this.
I don't know how long you've been with your coach but if things are getting stale, a new coach might be another avenue.

I've only been with him about 6 months, and the coach/athlete relationship is not stale. But before him I was on the 3 weeks on, 1 week off and he actually is the one that suggested the change based on my complaints that by the end of a recovery week (about 7-8 hours) I was feeling like the week was too long so he suggested the change.
Supposedly it's harder and more challenging, so it will be interesting to see how it goes starting next month.

I had to cover all of the bases first.
Like I said, it's something that I've considered as well so I think it's worth trying. I'm curious about the results. Keep us posted.

It's going to be interesting to say the least. I got my first couple of months from my coach (he posts 2-3 months at a time and adjusts if needed) and the typical cycle, when not interrupted by racing, looks like this:
Sat Long brick (3 hr ride, 7 mile run)
Sun Long Ride (5-6 hrs)
Mon Off
Tues swim am/2 hr ride pm.
Wed long run (15 miles)
Thurs swim am/strength progression ride (1-2 hrs) pm.
Fri 1 hr Hill Run.
Repeat above for 2 more weeks (with the sun ride building from 5 hrs up to 6.25 hrs in 15 min increments.)
Then after 3 'weeks' (16 days actually) my rest 'week' is only 5 days consisting of:
Mon, Tues, Thurs and Friday easy swims.
1 hr easy ride on Wednesday.
Then the next cycle starts up again on Saturday.
It's a cool concept and appears to be a lot of work, so it will be interesting to see the improvements and how well it goes. Also it will be interesting to see if I'm still married after all this!

Anybody here ever use a non standard (not 7 days) training week for their cycles? After about a year or more of the standard 3 weeks on, 1 recovery week my coach and I have decided to mix things up for me.
From now on I will be on 5 day 'weeks', 3 weeks on, 1 week off. My weeks will start on Saturdays and actually will be 16 days, instead of 15. So I will go from Saturday to the third Sunday, then take 5 days of recovery workouts (Mon-Fri) and start again the following Saturday with a new cycle.
The plus is that you get a rest 'week' every 16 days instead of every 21. Plus in a 30 day month you get 25 days of training in. The trade off is that you only get 5 days of recovery workouts instead of seven and you pretty much don't get any weekends off. (That will be the hardest, at least for the wife!)
After becoming stale and in a routine I'm pretty excited about this and have wondered if anyone else has gone to similar cycles and how it worked for them.
