Thoughts on Switching to a Road bike vs TT bike

So I'm about to make a big purchase. I'm buying a Trek Madone 5.2 to add some road races to my plate. I currently ride an 04 Cervelo Dual. It's a low end but very capable TT bike. I don't have to, but I'm considering selling the Dual and adding some clip on aero bars to my Madone. I'm a fairly competitive cyclist whose bike splits rank fairly high in my age group. I don't want to lose any speed or tax my legs for the run. Should I keep the Dual?

Personally, I don't think that there will be much of a drop off in any. Just make sure your new bike is fit properly and you should be fine. Personally I like having both my road bike and my TT bike because I get a little variety depending on what bike I take out. But if you want to sell one, I don't think there will be a huge performance drop off.

Also, you could always add the clip-ons and test it out before you sell the Dual.

Keep the Dual. There is definately nothign wrong with the bike. A proper Tri fitting on a tri bike is better than a road bike any day. Mostly due to the position afforded by the bike. If your Dual doesnt fit that great, or if you have trouble getting into a solid position, then you can consider dumping the Dual.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

My vote is also to keep it and add to the stable.

So? :D If I count my girl's MTB, there's 4 bikes and a frame in a 900 Sq Ft. apartment. Can wait to move.

keep it. position matters. You certianly won't be faster on a road bike than on a dual, unless the course is very hilly.

Keep it! I love my Dual, just need a little bit bigger size which is leading me towards looking at the P2C.

Dude... If you ever decide to get rid of your Dual, let me know... It's the perfect size for me, and I know it's been in good hands. In other words, I'd give you what you paid for it.
