WETSUITS
Whats your price point?
i love my quintana roo, i got it for almost 1/2 off on ebay, it's the only suit i've ever worn though so i'm not exactly an expert
I don't really have a price point yet. I'd like to do a little fact-gathering so I can figure out what it is I'd have to spend.
quintana roo are killer
you can get a last year model for about 1/2 price
I have a Rocket Science Sports Rocket wettie, I had an Ironman (Blueseventy) Stealth before, I like them both but I think the quality of Rocket Science Sports is better and customer service is really helpful. Although, I had to send my Ironman suit in for warranty fix and they were helpful also, but it took them a while. Just check out which suit fits best is my opinion, most every company is somewhat alike in sizing specifications but they are all a little different.

Wetsuits are a bit like running shoes. It's not that one is better than another, it's about the fit.
Example: My first suit I bought on features and price. It was supposed to fit according to the charts, but the minutia of my exact dimensions meant that in real life it held water like a thermos (Specifically I'm short from waist to shoulders).
By comparrison, my wife went to a pro tri shop and tried on every suit in the place. Her suit fits great and works great. Mine got cut up to make novelty beer coozys.
I have a De Soto 2 piece wetsuit and love it. At least check it out. Mine fits me better than any others I have tried and the customer service at De Soto is great. You also have a 14-day money back guarantee.
It's all about the fit, dont worry about the fancy technolgy if it doesnt fit you,, and to benefit from the $500 wet suit you will need to swimming 1:40s or better,, save your money and buy the best fitting suit you can afford, recommend going to a tri store and spend an hour trying on the different suits,... Tip put your foot in a plastic shopping bag then slide your foot into the wesuit and pull the wet suit up as high on your leg as you can, pull the bag out and repeat with your other leg, saves alot of time and sweat

+1 on finding what fits you best, and what you feel most comfortable with. If you can try them on first, it is really the best option. I love my 2xu comp, but it might not be the right suit for you... With new stuff coming out all the time, there is always "old" stuff to be had for cheap too.

Anyone have any experience/opinions on the Blue 70 "Sprint" full wetsuit? It sells for $198, seems like a good entry level price.
I'm looking into renting as well but not finding what I want. Plus at $50-60 for rental, $198 seems cheap. I would really like my own as well so I can hit some local open water to get used to the wetsuit and the cold open water before the Tri.
I also found a used (Rental) Blue 70 Energie for $262 .. in great shape supposedly. Would it be that much better a suit that I should really find the additional $65 bucks? Funds are really tight right now, but I will need to do something. From what I've heard, our lake water is still in the low 60's and will still be pretty cold next month for the race.
I found tons of suits on sale online, but with limited sizes .. and none in Large (my size).
Thanks,
Steve

Who has a full and who has a john? and why did you choose either?
Who has a full and who has a john? and why did you choose either?
I went with a full for 2 reasons - first the water can be quite cold here and second the full fit better - the john tended to gap a bit under the shoulder so would catch a lot of water.

I second the RV post on the "john" suits, i do love them for spring/summer surfing on a big day as the a sleeveless wetsuit does catch alot of water when you go over the falls and slows you down, dont like them for swimming, although if you have a barrel chest and are hard to fit then they might be an option, you will catch alot more water than a full suit and be colder,( the only people I see that really like them are the hard core swimmers that dont like wet suits to begin with. my 2cents
