Question regarding IMC
Well this doesn't show the degree of incline but rather feet climbed for the hills

and you can compare to other IM courses - just select whichever course or courses that you want to see.

Not sure the exact incline, but it's more like climbing bachelor from the east side. Not as severe a pitch as the grade on the west side of the Pac Crest race. I think you've up Bachelor so maybe that helps. It is a good deal of climbing and rollers so definitely be sure to get in plenty of training on whatever hills you can.
forgot to mention that I did see that already. Thanks though RV.
I figure if I can find out the percentage of incline of Yellow and Richter then I can focus my hill repeats on hills of the same here. I'm really sucking it up on the hills right now. Great on the flats though.

Unfortunately I did Pac Crest the only year that the route didn't go up Bachelor. :(

Toni--its about 6% I believe. If you can go up Juanita drive from the water side(not the north) and feel good, you will be fine. Try going up and over the north side a few times too for good measure--I did that a bunch when I was training. If you need some rides I can give you some. I will be doing PacCrest (if my stupid stress fracture ever decides to heal--I can try running again April 15th), so will be doing some long rides if you want to go with Tony and I. There are some good rides out to Carnation/Duvall with some good hills that will get you ready. I have one over in Wenatchee too that will give you good practice if you want one over there for "heat" pratice too.
The Richter (9kms long,) has four pitches. It starts at 69kms, 2k after the Husky at Osoyoos.
part one - 6% about 1.1kms in length and straight.
part two - 7% about 1.5kms in length . It passes the rest area pullout, where there are lots of fans.

It starts at 6% and increases to 7%. This is the steepest part of the Richter.
part three - 6% There is a plateau between 2 and 3 that is about 800m long.
part four - 6% after a plateau of 2k, then an aid station as the final section begins. part four is about 1.2kms long.
The climb to Yellow Lake (4kms long) is in three parts starts at 5% increases to 7%.
part one - 5% about 800m, then levels out for 500m.
part two - 6% ~1.3kms 6%
part three - 7% about 1.3kms, ends at Yellow Lake Rest Area where there is an aid station.
Do not be fooled into tossing all your water bottles at the bottom of the first pitch, as happened two years ago when someone was fooled and a thousand others saw the bottles on the roadside and copied the error, then had to ride 4k without water.
After the Yellow Lake aid station, the road rises gently over a gentle grade (3kms) to the Twin Lakes golf course, drops 2k on a very fast, straightish road that sometimes has wicked swirling winds, followed by a 400m rise then drops 5kms around twisting highway with sand/gravel shoulder (!!!) to join Hwy 97 again and a lovely fast descent into Penticton.
Ahh! the memories. I feel all nostalgic now.

Kylie - Thanks! It's nice to be back. I've been a bit focused and recluse-like with my training. Even on vacation last week I was going hard core every morning... I'll try to "show up" more often. :)
Britt - I think I've gone up that way before in Juanita when I was riding around Lk Wa last year in prep for Pac Crest. I'd love to join you guys sometime. I'm dreadfully slow on the hills though. For some reason, I'm just not getting faster at them yet. :( Time to get in some intervals, which is why I wanted to know the grade percentage of Richter and Yellow Lake. I'm very interested in the route in Wenatchee for the climate training. It's probably at elevation too, eh?
PoC! That was exactly what I needed!!! Yea!! Very detailed! Thank you! Can you tell I'm excited! I'm just glad it's not any steeper. That's pretty steep as it is, but I've got the perfect hills to train on for that.
I can't believe it's only 160 days until we race! Wholly schnikes batman! I will no longer be an IM virgin! Wooo hoooo!
Okay, I'll try to reign it in now. ;)

Can anyone tell me what the degree of incline for Richter and Yellow Lake are? I can't seem to find it anywhere and I don't exactly know where to look. Simply typing in "topography map penticton, BC" doesn't lead me to it.
Thanks,
Toni
