OK,
I just got my Timex speed and distance system, and have the GPS mounted to my bike to relay my information to my watch. Now, just cruising on flat terrain, i usually go about 22-23 mph without hurting myself too much. I can go about this speed for a while. But, I got to thinking, do i need to be pushing myself harder or faster? ( which we should always be doing!) and How fast do the pros usually go when they are on the bike portion. I know hills and downhills may varry, but on average, how fast do they usually cruise at so I have some type of goal to reach.

22-23 is pretty darn good if you can hold that for an olympic or greater distance you should be pretty good on the bike. As for the pros, the men are averaging 24-26mph in Hawaii (112 miles).

The story I like about the comparison between pros and amateurs goes like this:

What's the difference between pro cycling and amateur cycling?
Amateurs cycle at 40kph for two or three hours. The pros start the day at 30kph and end the day at 60kph!
