crushed limestone trail
If it was me, I wouldn't. You will mostly end up with a dirty bike, but you also run the risk of chipping paint and damaging your wheels. Road bike wheels are not built to go off road. Also, crushed rock is very abrasive and you run the risk of wearing out components.
If riding on a trail like this, (I'm assuming it's a rail trial) is a something you could do often, is a good place to train and and is fun...look around for a beater road bike or mountain bike. Yard sales are a great place to pick up a bike to use on stone rail trails or, like around here Forest Service roads (dirt). Great training to push a heavy old bike around. Makes race day on your road bike seem wicked fast!

+1 on both comments. I would look for an older mountain bike instead of putting unneeded wear and tear on your road bike.
Another thing is that, with skinny tires on gravel, you have a much greater risk of losing control because your tires will kind of sink in a bit and stuff. Also, if you do fall, it will hurt a lot more on crushed limestone than on pavement (I could be wrong about that one).

Also agree - that type of surface is best for a beater bike.
