So, my first tri is this weekend, I checked the forecast and it should be about 66 degrees (air temp) when we hit the water (probably a lower temp) as I have no wetsuit I am preparing to die, or to coat myself in vaseline.... or lighter fluid

then biking into 14mph winds while wet......yeah.....that won't suck at all.....it won't make my ungloved hands go numb......or my frozen solid legs resist the urge to thaw at all

and since my friend invited everyone we know to come and watch us race, at least i won't have to deal with the depression that accompanies suffering miserably and struggling with a most definately negatively affected athletic performance alone.....becuase I won't be alone.....nope.... not me.....i've got my wife, and my sister, a large group of my social circle and some random people from my church......neat

;)....wish me luck all......i'm looking forward to it......it is also a goal of mine to crush my friend for bringing so many people......payback is tough

Once the adrenaline hits you won;t notice everything else as much.

Just try to enjoy and have fun.

Good Luck.

Depending on where you live, the water temp may be warmer than you expect. I have found myself seeking the shelter of the water before an early or late season race since it is less prone to fluctuation and doesn't have wind to deal with. You could find yourself crouched in the water waiting to start, then not wanting to get out and head to the bike. Now the bike itself, will be bitterly cold initially, so just get your HR up and hopefully you'll warm up quickly.

Good luck

Good luck man. That's awesome. And good luck beating your friend. That'll teach him to invite everyone you know.

Oh, and don't forget your pump and extra tube.

Good luck!! I promise you'll forget about everything that was worrying you once the adrenaline hits you. 66 is the PERFECT temperature for a triathlon.

Yeah, I just realized he's in Florida. No right to complain about the temperature. It was 22 here yesterday morning, and I'm sure there are others much colder. Just suck it up!

And what race is this anyway?

Yeah, I'd be really surprised if the water is cold--you're in Florida, right? It'll be great!

Good luck! Enjoy! Oh, and remember to walk through entering and exiting the transition area both from the swim and the bike so you can find your stuff quickly!

Have a great time. As people are saying here, once you get going you aren't too concerned with much else other than the race.

I am jealous of your warmer temperature though :-)

I did my sprint in Zephyrhills Florida last Sunday. It was 40 degrees at the start. UGH! Outdoor pool, water temp 82 degrees.
I didn't pack any gear for cold weather. For the bike I was riding my Dad's "Fat tire". So I decided it wasn't worth getting sick over. I actually pulled on jeans over my tri shorts for the Bike and an Long Sleeve cotton jersey. (not a fast transition). 15.5 mph. Better than I expected.
For the run I gave up the jeans but kept the cotton jersey over the tri top.
I beat my 5K time from my sprint last Aug by 5 minutes. Easily my best 5K ever.
It was a small race but I had a blast. This was my 3rd Tri. I leave each one having learned something.
This time it was "Pack for every type of weather".

Good luck!!
