Hey All,

First off, thanks for signing up for a blog and forcing yourselves through a bit of a learning curve to get them going. It's new to me as well, but I'm enjoying it. Its great to read a little more about each of you, your training, and your daily journey. I think it's going to be a great new feature for us, I'm already finding it easier to go out and do my training for the day. I just read you're posts and it's helps keep me motivated.

OK, enough of that...

I'll be creating new themes for the layouts of the blogs in the next week. I've already had requests to allow you to place your own photo on the page rather than the default one. So, I'll work on that.

Any other layout design requests? I'll try to make a 3 column version and a version wiht no blank space at the top if you choose not to have a description. Also I'll play around with different positions for the description. Some of you have good long one's with your goals and races listed. I'll try to make more room for them maybe along the side.

Anyway any other ideas? Without getting me into creating a different design for everyone :) Favorite colors (if you don't like my green text)...

o.k. I've just added an additional template for you to choose from. It's called swim and has a generic swim photo at the top and moves the description to a right column so there's more room. I'm still working on how to make it easier to swap in your own photos, but for now you can add html into the description area to insert a photo there.

To switch to this theme, go to 'settings' in your blog admin:
http://www.triathlonlife.com/admin.php?op=blogSettings and choose 'swim' in the template dropdown menu.

Here's how it looks as my default:
http://www.triathlonlife.com/index.php?blogId=1

For adding your photo in the description, follow these instructions:
I put my trifuel avatar photo there by adding this code to the beginning of my description in 'settings' in your blog admin:

Followed by my description text just like this, etc, etc.

You can use the same code to pull your avatar photo in by just changing the u=2 to u=YourIDNumber. To get your ID number just click on your name in one of your posts and it'll take you to your public member profile page. The URL for that page will show your ID number at the end. A little techy so let me know if you have trouble.

You can also add you avatar here: http://www.trifuel.com/forums/profile.php?do=editavatar

As well, you can post any image you want as shown above, as long as there's a URL for it and it fits in the space alotted (about 150 wide).

Let me know if you have any questions. I'll continue to make more templates.

I like the new one a lot...

I see there is a section to make your own templates. I tried looking at the help, etc but there really isn't anything I can find on how to do this. Could you share some info on it? Maybe one of your neat little tutorials for the basics?

Even just a way to change the top photo and perhaps your own color scheme would be nice.

I see there is a "My Links" section with the swim template. How do you add things there?

update 9:07 pm: ignore the links part. I should read the other sections of the forum before replying :-)

Anymore templates on the way? If I find a template somewhere else what format does it need to be to upload? Thanks, I'm enjoying this so far.

Sorry about the low selection of templates. I was going to add a couple more but decided to wait until the next version of the software comes out so I don't have to redo them. It's currently in beta, so hopefully in April we'll have some enhancements and new templates. Then I'll take some requests on types of designs.

Hey Tribro,

I was wondering, what format can we use if we'd like to upload our own template and then scan for it? I certainly don't mind doing some of my own leg work to do that, I just need to know what format is being used (moveable type, blogger, Typepad, WordPress, Xanga, etc.)

Thanks,
Amber

hey amber,

cool. could use some help. It's running on an open source blogging system called LifeType (formerly Plog). The templates are using some smarty technology for the elements but are all CSS powered. You can check out their site for standard templates they have and then tweak the CSS.

http://www.lifetype.org/

I can upload the templates to a specific blog for a custom look if you like.

As well, I'm looking into some blogging alternatives that offer more features and better spam blocking. Hopefully I'll know more about that shortly.

I love the newest template where we can create our own header for the top. I do wish though that one would be made with a darker background color that could have an adjustable header. Also the tabs on the one template run up into the border which kinda stinks. I would much rather have that one though to make a little more personal.

Thanks the blogs are awesome.

I'm the opposite of Amber. I have NO idea how to upload the template (I did try, but to no avail) or how to get my post to show up on main blog site. I can't even get an avatar on to the forum.

I think I need things written out step by step. Anyone got some extra time on their hands?? ;)
