IT BAND
I heard an interesting discussion on Episode 60 of Tri-Talk regarding the relationship between ITBS and weak Gluteus Medius muscles.
Having said that, +1 on what tri-ac said in regards to seeing a professional.

I struggled last season with the same issue. +2 on going to see a pro. I also went and saw a massage therapist that works with athletes, not just every-dayers, and that made a huge improvement. +1 on the weak glutes/hamstrings from 'stewarba' , make sure those are built up and strong as it takes a lot of the strain away from that ITB. and stretch.....a lot before running
I've had ITBS issues in the past. I had switched to new shoes which were not supportive and was running on off camber surfaces (ie the side of the road). Icing the side of your leg with a bag of veggies helped me but recovery was long. This is one of those injuries you don't want to mess with as it will get worse. There are lots of resources for stretching, icing, etc.

Definitely do not tough it out. I tried this last year with disastrous results. I went to see a PT who gave me a stretching routine, which has helped a ton. Good luck.
Hi,
I've suffered several bouts of this. I can't recommend this enough. Find a PT in your area that can perform ASTYM: http://www.performancedynamics.com/
It can be pretty painful, but this is the absolute fastest way to recover and get back at it. Best of all, you can continue training between sessions of this treatment.
Good luck!

That's a great start.
There's also another thread on it here: http://www.trifuel.com/forum/10972/itbs
And... all I can say is seek help, and rest. It's not going to get better at current intensity... take some time off, and start slow...
thanks yall
thats a good help, i think we really narrowed down the problem.
The town i live in has terribly slanted roads! i guess i'll have to be more careful.

I think i have devolped itbs. im not sure, i've never had it before but my runner friends seem to think thats what it is.
i had built up my mileage pretty safely i feel and listened to my body i think trying not to get injured.
i did get new shoes, and think they may have contributed so i'm switching.
if you have any thoughts or experience i'd like to hear it.
my main question is, is this an injury that can turn much worse by running on? or is it ok to kinda tough it out?
