A number of you read my other thread about how disastrous my first goup ride was so here I am a week later.

I show up to ride the easy 25miles and am now quite certain what way they go......as the we roll out of the parking lot I notice it's just me and my buddy (neither of whom know the route) so we got stuck doing the 41miler.......I have never ridden (rode?) more than 30 miles before in my life and even then (a few months back) I almost had to walk the bike home....but armed with tri shorts (yeah cushion!!!) and bunch more riding under my belt we turned around to regroup in the lot with the slowest 41 mile group.

as we come back in the lot the B group is just starting to clip in and go and that, or so we thought, would leave us the C group, except noone wanted to ride C that day either.......we were forcast for wind gusts of 40mph (unsure of what they ended up being but it was ridiculous)

so.....today I rode 41miles for the first time ever.......at 18mph.........with 40mph wind gusts

I have never been so happy to be hurt

(as a side note, yesterday was my fastest 5K since high school.....yeah old fat 27 year olds!!!!)

It is better to hurt from doing something than from doing nothing...

excellent man. nice breakthroughs!

tri shorts or cycling shorts? I only wear tri shorts in races, much prefer the extra comfort of cycling shorts.

Good on you!
I'm with Dad (some of us call tribro "dad" since he's responsible for all this tomfoolery)
My "boys" much prefer the padding of Bike shorts to tri shorts...If you have a chance, get a pair.

That's so awesome. There's no better feeling then doing something for the first time that may have seemed impossible.

Oh, and I absolutely love the word tomfoolery. That's all.

Nice work!
I keep ditching my workouts because of busy times at work and am to much of a wuss to go outside until it is really warm. You are giving me some motivation!

Oh, and I have to agree with Anton, "If you have a chance, get a pair."
(I don't have any tri shorts, but I sure do appreciate my bike shorts)

good for you to go back and do it again! and nice breakthrough distance!

I hope you're stretching cuz it's hard the day you do it and then again two days later when your body starts telling you what a great time you had ;)

they are tri shorts.....due to current budget reasons i could only afford one set of shorts.......once the money shows up, I am definately getting a pair or bike shorts for any training rides over 25miles......the boys were complaining a bit today

clipless pedals comes first though and from what I'm seeing that'll be 200 bucks by the time a get some mid grade KEOs and a pair of shimano tri shoes

I'd rather be comfortable than fast... go for the bike shorts.

I'm sorry, but I seem to be a bit confused as to which 'Pair' anton is referring. From the syntax, it could be either 'boys' or bike shorts. Seems like you're fine on the former...

Go for the pedals/shoes, forget the shorts (for now).

That having been said - I bought my first pair of bibs last week and I'm now a bonafide convert. amazing.

So does that mean your boys are tribro's grandsons? That's an interesting family tree!

The good old double entendre. My favorite example from a comedian years ago:

Glad you pushed beyond what you are used to. I think regular bike shorts will make a big difference.

Whatever you do, please continue with the storys! They are great reads. :-)
