So I am doing a half-ironman in July and I have a sleevless wetsuit right now. This guy from work is willing to sell me his old Xterra Wetsuit (Probably 2 years old; cost him around $550). Th eonly problem is I think it might be too small. IT is a medium/Large and my other wetsuit is a large. I am 6'1 around 192 pounds but I have a larger chest/back/shoulders. How should this wetsuit feel to me?

BTW he wants $250 for it.

Ask him to try it on. The suit should feel restrictive almost to the point of being uncomfortable but you should be able to move. It will loosen a bit once it takes on a bit of water. From their website it looks like the suit would be bang on in size.

BTW i bought the vector pro a few years back and the sizing from the website was bang on (for me at least).

in all honesty i would ask to take it for a swim in your local open water or pool it no open water close by (just make sure to wash since chlorine is hard on stuff).Until you swim in a wetsuit you have no idea really how it will fit imo. At my local shop they have an indoor endless pool so you put on a suit go for a swim and repeat until you find your suit.

It looks like it might be a good fit, but see if the guy will lend it to you for a swim, if he is seriously looking to sell it, he should let you take it out for a trial swim. Sounds like a good deal as long as the suit is in good shape, I hope it works out for you.

Yeah I took it for a swim but it's really hard to tell if it fits me or not. It is a struggle getting the suit on. But it felt ok when I swam with it; I have a sleveless wetsuit now so not use to a full suit. And some water got into the suit; that was strange.....

It is tough to get them on -- that's why I'm glad that part of the race isn't included in my time! :)

If it is just a little water, that is to be expected. A wetsuit works by letting a layer of water in the suit and warming that with your body, and then not letting a constant flow of water in. A drysuit is what would keep all the water out.

If it felt ok for swimming (stroke worked without feeling like you were fighting the suit, didn't let in tons of water while swimming, etc) then it is probably going to be just fine for you.

Maybe I will take a picture of it and post it. Let me know what you think. I will do this tonight.
