I need to get a trainer..........
I got the Cycleops Mag + with stand for a total of $200 from Amazon. It works ok, but can get a little loud (like a vacuum cleaner).

I love my CycleOps Fluid2 trainer - lists at $329 - but look around the web and you will find it for a bunch less. Smooth - quiet - have had mine for several years - no issues at all. Lots and lots of miles on it.

I second the Cycleops Mag trainer. Mine is not the Mag + but I still love it. I just set it on the highest setting and switch gears to make it easier or harder. Had it since November of last year, absolutely no problems. It's lightweight and easy to move around.
Maria! Girl! Welcome back! I remember you! Old (er) folks rule!
I have Cyclops fluid...it's great, but you know..I got the same workout from my old Performance Trainer that only cost about $120, and was (Is: It's on loan) almost indestructible.
You gotta have a good trainer and if you train smart, it's not just for use in the winter.

I was in the same boat a few weeks ago and got the Cyclop Fluid 2 and LOVE IT. Very quite and easy to setup. If you go to Sunrise cycle https://shop.sunrisecyclery.com/display/2216/0/
They are offering a coupon for $105 off the price with no shipping and no tax which means yo can get it for $224 which is a fantastic deal. Since you are already getting free shipping (For orders over $30) I would also get the climbing block for$19 I have found that this keeps the bike a little more stable.
Good luck.
I'll be the odd ball here with the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine. The product is solid, their customer service is top notch, but I wouldn't get the cyclometer/watts meter accessory.

Ill be an oddball too and ditto the Kurt Kinetic, but stay away from the cyclometer/watts meter...
CycleOps Fluid Trainer II........great product
Cycleops Fluid 2, great trainer.
Fluid 2 for me. I found one on craigslist for $150. Quiet, solid, and plenty of resistance.
Performance has some great fluid trainers for under $200.
I knew I could count on you guys to give me some solid suggestions.
Thank you so very much. How is this Winter treating you? Up here has been a very rough February. We had a bad snow fall Tuesday, about 8" and last night another 2". I tell you, I feel this Winter just dragging and at times it seems it will never go away. I keep telling myself that Spring is just a few weeks away but, when the temps every day are in the teens, well, it is hard to believe.
Anyway, enough complaining about the weather. Thanks again for your help.
Stay healthy!!!!!
Maria.

Hi Maria!
1 more vote for the Kurt Kinetic. I've been using mine for a couple years now and love it.
Lots of snow up in Wisconsin this winter. I decided to deal with it by doing as much xc skiing as I can. I'm actually bummed about the upcoming thaw, as it is going to be very sloppy running for a few weeks and impossible to ski.
Any more ironman races in your future?
The temps are still cold, but the days are getting longer!!! It's now light out when I drive to work, so it gives me hope.
I spent $250 a cyclops fluid 2 because it's not as loud as the $100 trainers.
+2 for the Cyclops Fluid II
maybe check ebay or craigslist
I spent $100.00 on the Forza off of Amazon.com. It's not fancy, doesn't have a lot of thrills. It isn't loud, and I've been enjoying mine alot. Hopefully, I'll have some better info on how it holds up by the end of the year. I know you can't go wrong with Cycle Ops though...

Hello everybody: I have been absent for a while from this forums but still I have tried to keep my endurance and fittness up.
With the winter blast up here in the Midwest, getting everybody sick and in a bad mood, it is real hard to get out the door at 4:30am. to go ride the stationary bikes at the Y in Valparaiso, IN.
So, I am looking into buying a good trainer to be able to ride what I need to ride in the comforts of my own living room but, there are so many choices out there that I have no idea what to get so, I am asking all of you who have a trainer and know a lot more about this things than me, to please give me some suggestions as to what to look for.
Mind you........I am almost 57 and not really looking to go out and break any records but I do need to ride enough to get ready for the 2008 season.
I have seen trainers on line that go for $1,500.00, $700.00, etc. that is way to much for me. I am looking in the $250.00 to $300.00 range, but still I want a good one that is not going to give me any trouble 2 months after I get it.
Thank you so much in advance for this information and, even if it's a bit late, I want to wish everyone here a most Happy and Healthy 2008!!!!!!
Maria.
