McNaughton Ultra
You got me inspired and im thinking about doing a 50k in october......awesome idea bro
It is better to hurt from doing something than from doing nothing...

Heck ya, what better way to train for an ironman than running 50 miles on trails in the dark, nothing could possibly go wrong with my wonderful idea.
Good luck on the 50k!

If you do the 50 miler it will all be in the daylight...race starts at 6am on the 12th.
I don't know how fast you run, but a four hour marathon equates (depending on the course difficulty) to a 10 hour 50 miler....you'll finish in day light! After running 50, you'll find IM's are easy.
"The Mac" is developing a great rep, especially the 150 miler! Good luck..I'll be running a 24 hour race that same weekend.
Go over to the Ultra thread..growing group of UR's here at Trifuel...Looks like an ultra spring.

I've done over a dozen ultra's from 50k's to 86 miles trail and road. They are harder I think than IM's. If this is your first one I will recommend a few things; Hydration is extremely important (25-30 oz. per hour). Take some walk breaks, you will have a more consistant run pace throughout the event and it takes the strain off the joints for a little bit. If you are running in the cold for 50 miles I would suggest taking at least 3 changes of clothes. The key to staying warm in the cold is to stay dry. Please let me know if you have any more specific questions. Best of luck to you!

Considering doing the 50 miler this year. Anyone have any experience with this race? Or anyone doing it solo this year that wants a hotel buddy to save some money?
Seriously, any information about weather, course, aids, etc would be great. This is going to be my first ultra so I could use the help. Also I'm a baby about running in the super cold.
