I know I'm not exactly in the majority here, but what's up with so many of the meets being on sunday? Isn't saturday a day that we can all agree on?........please help me understand, is there a logistical concern i'm not seeing here (genuinely curious)

Indeed! I'm guessing you're a church goer too?

I have heard from more than one race director that permits are easier (perhaps cheaper) to secure for Sunday am races because there is less traffic on the bike course. It is less of a hassle for the community to tie up roads.

Add safety concerns to the costs of traffic control.

The roads are safer for runners as well as cyclists when the non-participants are all in church or watching golf on TV. :)

For those races that attract an out-of-town crowd, it may not be easy for athletes to leave early on friday to make the drive for registration on friday night.

I agree that it is a bummer for those of us who don't race or train on Sunday. If I ever talked myself into doing one of the Ironman sponsored races, I would pretty much be hosed as to options.

i hadn't thought about permitting, although traffic did cross my mind........travel is probably also a big deal I guess

......i would just think that with a sport that would have to admit it is a smaller, niche sport, that we would want our events at the most universally available times

I feel closer to God during a race anyway although I haven't figured out if that is due to oxygen deprication or what! ;-)

That's what the Rev. said in Chariots of Fire,

Eric Liddell: "I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure. "

or maybe just hypoxia.

I mostly lay off training and racing on Sundays, but I'll make exceptions for really great races probably twice a year.

They often have an prayer/worship service of some sort before the race. I'm always torn about these - great option or ticket punchers excuse to race? I'm a Church of Christ member, so a real ticket punch would have to involve communion anyways ;-)

as a pentecostal guy, i'd probably be a little unfamiliar with what they would consider a "one size fits all service" ;)..........for communion would they use grape accelerade?
