Snow shoeing!!!!!!!!
sweet! I've been wanting to give that a try myself. A couple inches of snow on the ground here as well. Did you buy a pair or rent them? I looked into some shoes that are more for running (Atlas trail running series), what type did you use?
I bought a pair of Redfeather sport race shoes. It took a while to get use to them, but after that it was no problem at all, well except for the fitness issues. I think the most challenging parts arethe added weight and lifting the feet more than normal. I hit a local golf course that is kown for its elevation changes. My GPS unit showed the most radical change of 380 feet over .4 miles. I havent run hills since early last summer. Should of taken the hr monitor with me. By the feeling of the chest I had to be close to max at a couple of points.

Snowshoeing is definately an awesome workout! I typically like to blaze my own trail, so I have the Atlas 10 series shoe. If you plan to shoe on packed or groomed trail then the running varieties are fun. If you're looking to buy....Sierra Trading Post has quite a few discounted shoes this time of year.
Last week visiting family I went a couple times (hip deep in areas). Estimated about four miles each time, but that four miles was about a 2 1/2 hour venture. It was a good hike. I use the MSR series and have been happy with them.
I got a pair for xmas when I was about 10 and remember having a blast, but constantly tripping over them and falling on my face playing tag with my sister and dad :p

i just finished my first ever snow shoeing experience. We have about 6 inches on the ground from this morning and are expecting another 6-8 before tomorrow morning. What a great exercise. i found out very quickly that you cant equate land running with snow shoeing, or else I'm in really bad shape. What a great change of pace from treadmills and short out door runs.
i know it was talked about on this forum before. now that I've done it I highly reccomend getting out and trying it (assuming you live in a cold weather environment).
