Xterra Help for beginner
There are some good training plans here on the trifuel site that could easily be adapted to an Xterra event, just go to the training tab on the top of the page. Most Xterra events are somewhere between a sprint and an olympic in distance but they make up for it in the difficulty of the bike and run. I would take one of the olympic training plans and follow it but make sure to adapt it to getting some trail runs and rides in to get your body used to the challenges that off road presents.
Sorry, I don't know anything about the Xterra races in California. Good Luck.
cool thanks
I will be doing Xterra Real in Granite Bay (norcal) and Xterra West in Temecula (socal) this year, and possibly Xterra Snow Valley (socal) later on. I have been doing sprint and oly distances for about 4 years now and this year am doing different stuff including my first year of xterra races. The Xterra Real race looked cool to start the season off, plus I have raced in the Folsom area before and worked Californiaman which is in this area also. It should be a fun season opener.
"If one can stick to the training throughout many long years, that willpower is no longer a problem. It's Raining? That doesn't matter. I am tired? That's beside the point. It's simply just that I have to."

Any books or training tips that you can recommend. I have not had time to go through this website but maybe it is all here.
good luck with the races.
I'd try the google search box at the top. Search xterra help or some such thing.
I just found this article which might help.

Looking to complete a n XTERRA this year. Not a great runner but I am in shape, not a good swimmer but I can learn, and I feel very comfortable and alway have on my bike, although the bike has a lot of dust.
Where should I start, I started running the other week (two - three times a week 2 miles to start).
Any books or suggestions. Are there better races than others in California (northern preferably).
thanks
