it's nice and quiet in the pool as usual, just me in my lane and a woman in the other lane. i'm doing my swim; she's doing hers.

i notice out of the corner of my eye that one of the gym staff comes to the deck and is cleaning up pool toys etc that were left out. sometimes i do this when i get to the pool, but today I didn't think it was all that bad (it can be pretty bad sometimes).

Well, I come to the end of my set and see that EVERYTHING has been cleaned up, including my kickboard and my printed workout. The other swimmer hadn't yet stopped, and I don't know if she had left any pool toys at the end of her lane, but they weren't there if she did. The staff person had already left the deck at this point so there was nothing to say before finishing up. i would have thought the courtesy would have been to leave the pool toys etc at the end of the lane that could reasonably be assumed to being in use...and my printed workout?! at least it wasn't that long and I already knew what I had left.

[still shaking head a couple hours later]

you should probably mention that to a manager.....my wife and i own a business and definately appreciate it when someone lets us know about a staff deficiency......if you don't know you cant fix it

you're right, of course.

i didn't want to hammer on her while I was mad because ultimately it didn't ruin my workout, but, if it had, I think I probably would have.

I just don't understand how she could mistake my workout for trash or even assume that it didn't belong to one of the two people in the pool. it was a fairly obvious list of swim sets.

Fairly obvious to you and me - because we use these things - but if your pool is anything like mine, it is used mostly by people floating around, walking up and down the lanes, or for water aerobics. People actually using the laps for a regimented swim workout is a novelty. (I feel out of place in tri shorts and shaved legs.) I remember once an average high school swimmer (female) swam laps once in the gym pool around 5ish. She just about stopped the gym down with gawkers (young, in shape, female, and fast is not something seen in my gym very much). Too bad.

I swim at a 50m olympic pool and the staff will continuously change the pool lanes sideways to a 25m pool while your in a middle of a swim. They never tell you, you just have to figure it out when the lane markers disappear during your swim.

Is it just me, or are any of you starting to hate the local youth swim teams? They are always taking up lanes and the kids in the lockeroom drive me CRAZY..

I was swimming laps the other day in one of three lanes that divided two large play areas and it was just me and four teenagers who just playing........i ran into them 4 times.....4 because they kept crossing my lane while i was swimming

Am i the only one who would pay $5 extra for a movie theatre with no teenagers or kids in it??? I'm work with them for a living and can't stand them in a movie theatre

I had my hand paddles taken by a teenager last week. One of the YMCA staff was nice enough to return them to me. Last summer I actually had to stop and pick a teenager up and place him in the other lane. I did it very nicely and sternly as I told him that he was going to get hurt by accident if he kept coming into my lane. Two weeks ago I had another teenager incident. They thought it was funny to keep throwing a ball at me and saying it was an accident. All it took was me saying "one more time and you will have a serious problem" and staring at them until they moved away. I work with teenagers also and 95% of the time they just need an adult to tell them to act with respect. Anyway, it is never fun to have outside interference when concentrating on a good swim workout.

What about cologne/perfume/aftershave/other overly scented cosmetic products that people are using too much of? When the water aerobics start there's almost always some thick aroma that comes wafting over to me. The timing usually means that I have about 20 minutes left when this happens. There have been days when I can practically taste that smell even while underwater and one time it was all I could do to not puke. I've thought of mentioning this to the management, but it's members who are the issue, and no one who overscents ever thinks it's them. And then there is the music, which can also be heard from the shower and sticks with me for the rest of the day.
