Testing
I don't think I'd want to do my running test set on a trail. Other than that, it looks pretty standard.

Not fast enough.
Most run tests i see involve the track. A 1.5 mile test will give you a solid baseline, no need to run 4 miles.
The swim distance is good. I do a 7 mile TT for my bike testing, simpley because there is a 7 mile bike loop down the street from my place. Friel suggests a 10km route, 5 out, 5 back. Again there isnt much you are going to gain from a 15 mile ride that you couldnt get from half that. You are more likely to get more accurate LT data from a shorter ride, and even short hard efforts reflect aerobic conditioning. They are also eaier on your body, with a faster recovery so you are good to go for the next test a couple days later.

Next week is my "recovery week" from Base 1 training. Is that a good time to do some Max Heart Rate testing. I'll be honest, I didn't do it going into this training and used the formula of 180-(my age)+2 for my current activity to identify my max for zone 2 and setup the rest of my HR zones based on that, but I'm not sure they are very accurate. Honestly my Zones feel pretty good and my pace has consistently improved while maintaining a HR of ~140, but it would seem that I should check this periodically.
Sorry if this seems like a thread hijack, but I thought it was in the same line of periodized testing.

I dont think I would sweat woryying about your max HR. You can set your training zones by getting your LT/ VT from testing.

Alright, so this is my 3rd year of tri, but my first time planning a periodized training plan. I am approaching my first testing week (the last week of the prep phase) and was trying to setup the format for it. My A race is an olympic the last weekend in August (Chicago Accenture Tri), so here is what I was thinking:
Swim: 900yd time trial (my pool is 45yd/lap, strange I know)
Bike: 15 mile TT (use bike CPU for distance tracking, always on the same route)
Run: 3.8 mile TT (was gonna do 4, but found a nice 3.8 mile trail nearby that I'll use)
Do those sound reasonable considering the race distance, etc? Also, I will be doing them all in the same week on separate days. It will likely be my reduced volume week so I can do only the test on the day I perform each.
Let me know if I'm on the right track
