Hello! This is my first post on trifuel, and I am hoping for some insight on what I think is a pretty big decision; my first tri bike. I have posted this question on another forum or two, so apologies if you've already seen it, but I am looking to get as many opinions as possible.

In my price range I have the following choices:

Giant Trinity A2- $1500, Sora group, Composite Frame

Felt S32- $1450, Ultegra/105/Dura Ace mix, Aluminum

Quintana Roo Kilo- $1600, Ultegra/Dura Ace Mix, Aluminum

Cervelo P2 SL- $1650, Ultegra, though I might splurge another $200 to go to the Dura Ace, because I hate yellow.

I have a Emery's Bicycles (owned by Bret Emery) near me that sells all these different brands along with Kestrel, Guru, and Trek, though those seemed out of my price range expect for the Equinox 5 which looked like a converted road bike.

My number one criteria is obviously fit. I will buy the bike that best fits me. Does anyone have an input past the fitting? Does one bike or another jump out and say, "if two of these fit you, buy this one cause......!". I am really not concerned with the difference between $1450-$1800. All I want is a bike that I look at and I want to ride the hell out of it and that is reliable, and a good value. I am hoping some of you can shed some light on some determining factors to consider if more than one bike fits me.

Many thanks for the help,

~~Another Newb

I don't know about the particular bikes, but I would shy away from the Sora components since. I was told they are significantly different than ultegra on up. Also, aluminum frames seem fine with me, just make sure you have a carbon fork and seatpost preferably (all should) for more comfort on longer rides.

Bikes are certainly not my expertise, so others will have better info. GL

Wow...that was grammatically. Awful, lol.

Welcome aboard.
Everyone is going to tell you a different brand because of biases. Its like cars people own.

I have owned a Felt before and the older Cervelo Dual. I like the Cervelo by far and is the best racing bike I have owned. Great price, reliability, components, etc. And the look of the Cervelo is just plain sexy with that bladed frame. I would go cervelo and never look back.

I have the Felt S32. It was my first tri-bike purchase and still my only one 18 months later. It is extremely reliable and works well for me since I don't have the best flexibility. It's a good bang for the buck. I have upgraded the aerobars and only use the stock wheels for training. I also like the color (blue) and the overall way it looks. However, isn't the bike 85% rider and 15% machine anyway?

You bet it is. And I am ready kick the crap out of my 85%. I just want to make sure my 15% is as good as it can be so my 85% is safe, sound, and efficent.

I would stay away from the Giant (I can't believe there is a $1500 dollar frame that has the Sora group on it). Between the Felt. Cervelo, and the Quintana Roo it is going to be a toss up in my opinion. You are going to have to weight which bike fits you the best against which you like better and the cost of each bike. Good luck with your search.

I can only speak to what I know, and I have had a P2-SL for about a year, and I absolutely love everything about it. If you find one that fits you, you definitly will not regret getting one.

The Giant is really more of a TT geometry than tri IIRC. QR used to put out top-of-line bikes, but their R&D in the past few years has been outdone by Cervelo and Felt. I'd pick on of those two. If it were my money, I'd get the Ultegra P2SL and put that extra couple hundred dollars toward some aero wheels or a helmet.

I'd stay away from Sora too, and my vote is for QR purely on sentimental reasons: My first tri bike was a QR Tequilo. Rosebud . . .

I love my P2SL. Have had it for 2 years.

Not to throw a monkey wrench by writing this but...the new Specialized Transitions are amazing looking bikes IMO. If I was buying today I would have to give one of those a serious look.

I love Giant, but I can't believe they are trashing a reasonable TT frame with that Sora crap! (Yes, I said crap.)
I've had a Cervy too in the past...go with the P2SL ultegra.

Thanks for the responses. I am not going to look at the specialized as paying $1900 for 105 makes it the least affordable. The Giant got thrown out due to Sora and the fact my Giant dealer doesn't realy do much with triathlons. This leaves me at:

1. Cervelo P2SL
2. QR Kilo
3. Felt S32

So far, the overall consensus is Cervelo. Actually, it has been a substantial vote of Cervelo (at least 95%). In the end it comes down to proper fit, but I have been told that these three bikes are incredibly similar in fit, so I know there had to be reasons to choose one over the other. Thanks for the help. Good luck this season.
