Wetsuit Alterations

Hi Everybody,

I was wondering if anybody has had their wetsuit altered for a better fit. I luckily made the Bayswim 4.4 mile swim this year. My wetsuit is a bit tight across the chest and neck. It has been tolerable for the 1 mile swims in Olympic distance triathlons.

I am going with Express Wetsuit repair for the alterations. Anybody use them before? Also does anybody else get a bit warm in their wetsuits on the swim?

Thanks for any advice.

I have never used or heard of anyone doing a wetsuit alteration, but I would imagine that it could be done.

Depending on how warm the water is that I am swimming in, I may get a little warm, but in most swims, the water is cold enough that I am comfortable.

I'm thinking of cutting the sleeves off mine because it's way too constricting. If I do it, I'll let you know how it goes.

That would make me nervous. Have you thought about selling it and then taking the money and applying it to a sleeveless wetsuit?

It's of the old, rotting variety, so I'm pretty sure no one would buy it. I actually don't like swimming with a wetsuit anyways, because I was blessed with God-given buoyancy. I pretty much only use it when the race requires it, which is not the case for any races I'm doing this year (fingers crossed), so we'll see.

Lucky! I don't float, at all. With a full breath in my lungs and my back arched like I've been shown a hundred times my feet drop and only the top of my head is at the surface (not even above it, really).

Sorry for the late contribution to this thread... anyway...

Because I have freakishly large calves I had 8 inch zippers put in the back lower legs of my wetsuit. Used a local wetsuit and outdoor gear repair/alteration person here in Denver. It was $50 bucks and worth every penny. I used to struggle in T1 to get the dang thing off, and occassionally begged fellow racers for assistance gettiing me out. But now it is a breeze! I was definitely nervous when I dropped it off for the work, but it worked out perfectly!!
