I wanted to get an idea from you all here what a reasonable price would be to charge for a tri bike assembly because I am having someone (pro mechanic) assemble my tri bike. The bike came mostly put together, but he would need to run all the cables, install the bars, lube it, tune it, etc etc. I do not know how to do some of the necessary things so I am having this friend do it. I do not trust myself to just figure it out on a $6,000 bike. I would hate to be in a race going 25 mph and my bike falls apart (exaggeration). I want to get an idea before we start talking about price what a reasonable price would be.

Thanks

The last complete build was $75. I've had another cost me only $40 but I've also heard of much more. I typically am friends with the people at the shops so I don't know if that the good buddy discount or the regular rate.

You guys are able to get a lot cheaper deals than I have been seen in my area. A typical tune-up costs about $80-$100 at any bike shop in our downtown area. That also would not include running the cables, or anything like that. That is why I forced myself to learn how to do the maintenance on my bike. If you shop around, you should be able to find a someone to do it for under $100.

Ya, I would expect at least $100 as well. A major tune-up can be over a hundred at places that I've gone to - or at least places where I would want someone working on my bike.
Talk to people in your area - Tri-club etc. for what is customary in your area - seems like there may be a wide range.

The only shop in my town I would trust to put together my bike charges $80 for the whole shebang.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

2 hours labor at the bike shop...the first to get it all together, the second to dial it in. It can be done faster, but worth it to spend the two hours in my opinion.

If your local shop cuts you a break on the build, toss 'em a case of beer. Build that relationship. My LBS has treated me right from day one, and they almost always cut me at least 10% off their prices. I occasionally show up with a pizza or a case for the boys, and it has payed forward. I know not your really your question, but it seemed like an appropriate place to state that opinion.

This is why you should frequent the LBS even when you're not buying anything. When it comes time to buy, they remember you and are more inclined to cut you a deal.

thanks...i actually work at a local shop..dont ask me why i don't just go there...the shop is a little all over the place right now and I only work there part-time, mostly weekends. Anyway, not important....thanks again, this bike will get done eventually....it is 80% together, its not like he will be starting from the fram up. But i'll figure it out...
