Taper/maintenance training
not sure i understand...are you working out following the plan? or are you limited from completing it because of the weather or gym?
if you're still doing all the workouts, i'd say stick with it as best you can and don't get down on yourself about what may or may not happen...you're doing your best!
if you're not doing the workouts (or some indoor version of them), get back at it!

Sounds like you started the plan out too far from your race date - You might want to repeat the month of the plan prior to the taper - just time it out so that you start the taper in the right week to match up to your race.

Thanks that answers the question. I realize my question was a bit confusing, but basically I was just wondering how to go about maintaining. I started the plan early because I couldn't find one that was any longer (and ya know being a beginner I had no clue how to go about training on my own), so obviously I don't want to start tapering quite yet.

Yeah, I'll second RV then -- just repeat the middle months.
Thanks! Just started reading The Triathlete's Training Bible and that is helping to answer a lot of my questions!

I've been following this 5 month training plan for my first tri in May. I'm about half way through month 3, but I still have almost 3 months to the tri. The plan starts to taper in the fifth month (in anticipation of the race). But seeing as I'll still have another 2 months till my race at this point, how do I go about maintaining my current level of fitness and when should I start to taper? Also right now I'm not doing any work outside, it's been in the teens here. And I know my workout in the gym is good, but def not anything compared to what I'm going to feel like when I start running/biking outside. I'm hoping to get back outside next month at the latest.
