http://www.performancebike.com has deals on the various models. You can find them super cheap but I don't know about the quality. I stick with Polar but I have the strap for my Garmin.
You might want to decide what you want it for, look at the options that are available and then make a decision. Else you might wind up buying two and that won't be relatively inexpensive.

+1. I'd shop around a lot and decide exactly what features you want. Also look at other HRM's with other stuff like a power meter or a GPS. I know a lot of people who had Polars, and then go a Garmin, and now they basically have two heart rate monitors.

I agree. I went cheap at first, then ended up upgrading shortly therefater. But...I got my 2nd one on ebay and saved a bundle, so might want to look there. If you buy a used one, I'd get one that allows you to change the battery yourself. Some of the Polars are sealed & have to be sent in to get the battery replaced, which seems like a hassle.

This is an excellent point. You have two devices that have batteries and last time I checked it was $40 to replace the battery in the chest strap. Figuring the other battery is going to cost a similar amount of money and would probably fail around the same time, you've pretty much just bought a new one with battery replacements.

I am looking for a relatively inexpensive heart rate monitor. I am looking at the Omron Hc 100 at the moment but I am up to someone changing my mind. Any advice?
