as a newbie trainer who just spent the last 48hours laid out flat with the flu how do I get started again?
I'm hoping to go to work tommorrow and would like to ride that night......is it too soon?
I know most of us aren't doctors but I'm asking for your experiences.....do I rest or take it real easy for a few days or is this the kind of thing you just kind "man up" and fight through.....I'm cool with suffering if it's what works I am not eager to hurt just to make myself sick again....
thanks for the help all
You're gonna be weakened by
You're gonna be weakened by the flu itself, not inlcuding the training you've missed. If you've only been out of the game 48 hours though, you shouldn't be at too much of a loss. Don't rush back into full force training, especially since you're probably not that far behind. My advice, attempt your ride, but be constantly monitoring how you feel and don't be afraid to take it easy or even call it early. You should be able to listen to your body to figure out what you're capable of.
Rushing back might just lead to prolonging your return to 100% capability

You probably don't have much stored energy after 48 hours of the flu. Take it slow for a few days. Your fitness will still be there.
Take it very easy and listen
Take it very easy and listen to your body. Make sure you are adequately hydrated and are eating without problems. If in doubt, wait another day and make a good night's sleep your "training" for the day. This time of year, you have more to lose by rushing a recovery than you do by just making sure you are healthy and ready to go.
I had a double-whammy of bronchitis and food poisoning last month that knocked me flat for 5 days and caused a layoff of 12 days. By the end I was going pretty stir-crazy, and the fitness loss was definitely noticeable afterwards, but coming back too soon would only have prolonged the problems.
I'm going through the same
I'm going through the same thing. Got hit by the flu over the weekend and spent the last 4 days in bed. I'm leaving town today for a weekend overseas, and had hoped to get in one or two long runs while there. But, I can tell from my own body (and the wracking cough I still have) that while sightseeing is in, major cardiovascular activity is out.
Listen to your body. Yesterday morning I showered, but then had to lay down and rest because the effort was so great. To me, that's a sign that I've really sapped my reserves. I know I'm losing fitness, and my first race of the year is only 7 weeks away, but my A race isn't until July. I won't do myself any favors by being heroic right now.
Thanks for the advice
Thanks for the advice all.......i think i'll try to go to work friday and try an easy ride saturday to test the waters
I literally went through
I literally went through this restart myself this week and botched it. I jumped back in and did my swim and a weight workout too early and managed to not only stay sick, but got much worse. I ended up laid up for an additional 4 days. I second the thoughts above - listen to the body and take it easy rather than rush back in.
