I've heard tons about open water starts, but nothing about pool starts. Is it the same mass frenzy sort of thing, do people stick to their own lanes???? Am I going to have to worry about crashing head on into someone else? My first tri is in May and it's in a pool. I figured it would be less intimidating and also hopefully a bit warmer (I'm in New England).

I've done only 2 pool starts, and they were both time trial starts (i.e. only one person starts at a time, every 10-15 seconds or so). They are chip timed. The lanes are only one way traffic: you go down one lane, duck under the rope, and come back the other way in the next lane.
