Carbo loading

I have carbo loaded once before an event and it seemed to work well for me. I did it by gradually increasing my food intake in the last few days before the event.

However I read an article the other day (can't remember where now!) that said to increase carb intake but reduce fat and protein so your overall calorie intake remains the same. The question is how do you do this on an already highish carb diet? I can imagine increasing fruit or fruit juice, but when I'm already eating a good quantity of bread, cereals, potatoes, etc, then how do you get more carb in?

Cheers

ya higher intake of carbs then you may normally intake but, simple forms... like pasta, white rice, bagels, etc. as opposed to brown rice, rice pastas, etc that you may be taking now for the higher carb diet.

Also many will deplete (sp?) carb reserves before the load. So low carbs the day before carb loading. Like veggies and steak 2 nights prior and then pasta/rice the night before.

I've heard 3 different carb loading approaches:

1) depletion then loading - some say there are side effects of feeling slow and low during the depletion stage so I'm not so keen on trying this

2) Increasing calorie intake with extra carbs - could add weight and can lead to feling of being bloated just before an event

3) Keep calories the same but increase % of carb.

#2 worked for me the once I tried it. Was feeling a bit bloated that day before but a good couple of sesions on the toilet fixed this! I'd be interested in hearing how the other approaches have worked for anyone else.

Thanks
