Gotta Paint The Darn Garage
I wouldn't even know where to begin on that one, not much of a handy man... I once flooded the apartment changing a washer in the tub. Forgot to shut off the main water valve and took an hour to find the main source. so, needless to say i'm not qualified :)
I believe what you want is "gloss". Gloss is what you would have in your kitchen, it's shiny and it's easier to clean. I also believe it doesn't allow things like kitchen grease to penetrate it.
But the best thing to do is to go to Home Depot or the local equivalent.

I used to paint houses in the summer (I'm a teacher) For old wood and in places where the weather is nasty, I prefer oil based...it lasts usually 5-7 years between re-coats. But Latex has really improved in the last few years and really does well. Don't go cheap or you'll find yourself doing it again two years from now.

Odd place for this forum.
I am a generally handy person, and my painting advice is prepare your surfaces well. Make sure the surfaces are clean, put on a high quality primer first, and one or two coats of your paint. Sounds like an interior job, and I prefer latex there for ease of cleanup.
Anton is on the money. Cheap paint is cheap for a reason. Quality paint is more expensive to start, but cheaper in the long run.
Good luck.
Just make sure you're dead on about that will bond better to the particular surface you have, oil or latex. I recommend going to the local hardware store and asking the nice people in the paint department what the know about latex bondage.
Ok seriously though +1 to what anton said. I used a high gloss latex in mine and its still lookin good. It was painted right after construction though so it wasnt exactly old wood like anton refered to.
Good luck.

Ok, I'm going with some more expensive latex, thanks a lot you guys. And thanks longhair for the point about clean surfaces, that is important.
Take care,
Janet

Ok everybody, apology accepted about the article thing on the health forum. Sorry for any confusion.
Now I've got a question for you guys.
I have to paint my fr__king garage. I don't even use it for my car, only for my bike and treadmill but I gotta get it done.
I like latex paint cause it's so easy to clean up, but I hear oil-based is way better and lasts longer.
Which on do you guys think I should use?
Thanks a lot,
Janet
