Anyone running Boston this year?
I will be there. This is my fourth and last Boston, for the near future at least. The course and the experience both live up to their reputations. Train with some hills at the end of your long runs. They start at mile 17.
Good luck with your fund raising.
Heartbreak Hill starts right at a firestation I sometimes work at (Station Two, Newton), so I will have lots of friends there for that one, at least.
Actually, I live at the top of a hill steeper and longer than the worst hill on the marathon course, so no matter what direction I run in or for how long, I have to run up that hill at the end of my run with that.
I will be there for my first time as well. I've been looking quite a bit at the course elevation and am attempting to incorporate it into my training. Hope to see you out there. Good luck with training!
The hills aren't that bad or that steep. It is the combination of many short downhills for the first 13 miles and then the series of hills from mile 17 to 21. The long downhill starting at the top of Heartbreak Hill is a quad killer and it is easy to get carried away because you can see the city. The finish line is the best of any marathon I have done. Making the left turn onto Boyleston St. is just amazing.
I gave up beating my head against the "Qualifying for Boston" wall a long time ago. Got close but just never happened and now..it just doesn't matter anymore.
Oh to run Boston as a novice! What a memory that will be, Tortise!

Is anyone running the Boston Marathon this year? This is going to be my first (and a warm up for a 1/2 Ironman later in the year), so I'm pretty excited. I've gotten slightly behind because I took the last two weeks off due to an abnormally stiff neck and back and I just didn't want to push it. But I'm back today and shooting for a goal of 4:00. I'm not a very fast runner anymore, so running 9:15 miles for 26.2 will be a real challenge for me, but I find having a realistic time goal to train toward is very motivating for me.
I'm running and training with five other firefighters from my department, two of whom have run the marathon before and the rest of us are novices. We'll also be raising money for the Jimmy Fund or Dana Farber Cancer Institute (not sure which yet because I missed the fund raising meeting last week).
