Ok so this next week according to my original plan I am supposed to put in 18.5 hours, the problem is I got an invitation for an all expense paid snowboarding trip that will take up fri, sat, sun, and mon. So I can't take my bike and I don't have any running gear that is going to keep me warm enough. So I was looking at how I could classify 2.5 days of snowboarding in my training schedule? Is just dead time, or could I legitimately call it some form of training (note I'm a noob snowboarder so I'm falling down a lot and getting back up which when done x1000 per run is pretty tiring lol). I'm planning to do my long bike before I leave but I think my long run of the week may just not happen.

I'm jealous. I haven't been boarding this year yet.

This would be considered cross training. I'm sure there will be a lot of ab work done when you're getting up so that could be considered core. :)

18.5 hours is pretty much. Is the following week supposed to be a rest week? If so, I would just bump your entire schedule up by one week, so that your snowboarding trip falls during the rest period.

I'm sure that boarding will give you some benefit (as compared to sitting around and doing nothing) but it won't be very tri specific at all. If you were snowshoeing or xc skiing I would say to count it normally.

Don't worry about the hours or swap this week with your next recovery week. 18.5 is a lot of hours - I max out at 16 with a usual week being 8-10. Either way, see you in April.

AS tough as being green at boarding sucks- it hurts a LOT- it doesnt count as cardio crosstraining. XC skiing on the other hand will kick your ass and get major cross training points.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Take advantage of this and count it as X-training. I too have snowboarded and as a noob you will wear yourself out more than you can imagine. If you insist on more traditional training, rent some snowshoes one day and hike UP the lift line and ride the lift back down. Of you can try cross country skiing, but the learning curve is pretty steep.

if you're going to spend 6 hrs on the hill each day, you will be tired...your muscles will tell you all about it when you get back.

count it as cross training or weight training
