so i started my base training and everything was going nicely for 2 1/2 weeks. i started to get sick but pushed on, and then finally succumbed to my hacking cough and sore throat. 3 days later I feel a lot better, but have lost a good bit of the fitness i gained in the 18 days I was 'in training'.

So here is my question... Is it better to push on as if nothing happened, and just accept the 3 lost days, or should I backtrack and maybe start over at the beginning of base week 2? thanks for the help!

Just keep going. I'm sure you'll feel it come back really quick.

And, IMO, I would shy away from the "I started to get sick, but pushed on" mentality. If you feel yourself getting sick, take a day off, and you might save yourself a few days in the future. That's just my opinion, but I think it makes sense.

and chunky would be right. If your in certain stages of sickness exercise can actually spread what your body is trying to fight faster thus making you even more sick. A few days R&R sure beats a week or two sick.

I might want to repeat the week you were sick, but for the most part, keep going.
On the contrary, I tend to feel like a nice hard bike, run, and/or swim makes me feel better when I'm feeling ill. I don't know if it is psycological or physical (elevated temperature), but it works. However, not if it is an illness from training too hard.

Keep going. 3 days is nothing. I've heard you don't start 'deconditioning' until the second or third consecutive day off anyways, so you really haven't lost anything. I've also heard that for every WEEK off it takes two weeks to return to where you started (prior to the week off). And since you didn't really miss a week, no harm/no foul.
