Training in Skinsuits?
Last year I wore it for a swim time trial about 1 week prior to my first race, and then for a few transition practice sessions.
I'd feel funny. I'd feel funny wearing an aero helmet on a training ride, too, though. I have race wheels, a race helmet, and a racing suit...I just wear them for racing.

Not fast enough.
I try to avoid even using my good tri shorts for training. There is a psychological benefit to having race only gear. Slipping it on tells your mind that it's "go time." Besides, one pieces look completely retarded ;) We as triathletes dont need to do anything to make ourselves look even more goofy :D
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
I'd feel ridiculous. Actually I don't have a skinsuit yet, but I'll race in a one piece swimsuit sometimes. Others out on the road don't need to see that much of my butt while I'm training. I also have my race wheels and my aero helmet that are just for races. I train in my tri shorts, but generally not the little tops.
I think its one of those things that if you are really really really fast, others *might* think its cool, but if you are any slower than the best, is ridiculously embarrassing to you and your friends.
Well, in stark contrast to the many others here, I sometimes DO train in my tri suit. The compression offered by the suit is really helpful. My suits (all Sugoi) fit me very well, and training in them is a joy.
But I agree that it's nice to have "special" gear that puts you in the mood to race. The other downside to using them too often is that they aren't very durable. I've gone through three or four suits when various things break (zipper comes apart, pockets rip, etc).
The compromise is that I usually save the suits for long workouts only. This includes not only long bike rides, but also long runs! If I'm running for 2 hours or more, I'll wear the tri suit, throw a shirt on over it, and head out. Again, the compression is really helpful here. Especially in the legs, but to some degree in the torso as well.
I'm going with the majority here. I have skinsuts, race wheels and an aero helmet that only come out for racing and testing. I wear tri shorts and a bike shirt for most rides.

im with airborne. i use mine to train in probably 80% of the time. but the suits are from past seasons. i think its important to train in the gear you race in. my only 'race only' gear is my TT bike, and even that is ridden 1 out of every 3 road rides.
I think that the bike is really the only "train like you race" peice of equipment that matters. My skinsuit doesn't feel much different from the normal bibs and jersey kits I wear, neither does my aero helmet. I'll swim in a speedo and run in running shorts. But last year I rode my tri bike every day.
I swam 4k today at lunch and saw a guy who was obviously wearing his skinsuit from last season (it had a big hole on his right cheek). Honestly, the guy looked ridiculous (he was overweight, too).

But if you are concerned about how you look I'm not sure why you're focusing on triathlons (a relatively non-glamorous sport). Train in whichever manner you think is best to improve. If wearing an old speedsuit gives you a mental edge, than why not go for it?

Hey,
Just curious how many of you all actually train in your one piece skin suits. Personally I don't unless I'm doing a gear test before a race, you know using all the same stuff you will during a race to make sure its still good. For some reason just going on a long ride in a skin suit crosses some line, don't mind the aero helmet wearing spandex (in two pieces) but the skin suit just is too much, how about you all?
