has anyone ever used one of these? This kurt kinetic power meter is only 50$ but can only be used when on the trainer. Is it accurate and worth the money? I want to do training with watts and power output but can't afford a power tap....

I bought it and I'm not impressed. First, it's wired. For $50, you'd think it would be wireless. It does show wattage but I think it's a guesstimate based on what they know about their device. I use it as a baseline more than anything else. Otherwise it would be totally based on perceived exertion.

I have one as well, and overall, its helpful to have something that shows a consistent number for power, but its not all that useful and was a little disappointing given 1.) it doesn't keep the data or allow you to export 2.) its display is only so/so 3.) it is based on formulas for the resistance of the trainer (you can change them for other trainers if you like) and probably isn't accurate to other real power meters.

I use it, watch it while I'm riding, and have some sense of the watts it says I'm outputting, which is helpful, but I'm not convinced its a "real" number. I was also annoyed that its wired. I didn't want to have another computer mounted on the bike.

To tri or not to tri - that's not a question at all!
