So was looking at my race planner and totally had forgotten about the USAT age group nationals in Portland, OR. Anyone else planning on going? If so might you be interested in splitting some lodging? Or does anyone have advice from last years both course wise and where to stay (spent one semester in college up there so vaguely familiar with the area).

The bike was two laps and hap one brutal climb each time. The rest of the hills were small enough that the momentum carries you over if you build up some speed going down (I think my max speed on the course was 45 mph). Besides the one climb, it's not too bad IMO.

The run sucked. A lot. Lots of long, steep hills.

The transition was tricky because there was a very steep hill right outside the transistion area (it was short, though). You have to get into your shoes pretty quickly to climb it right. A bunch of people weren't paying attention and crashed. Watch out for them. LOL!

Possibly... Depends on money at the moment. Between Tuscaloosa and Vancouver, I'm kinda broke.

Yeah money is tight for me as well but I think I have enough time between Tuscaloosa, Honu and Portland to do the student starve/save thing to go to the races.

It could be worse. I was planning on doing Tuscaloosa, Portland, and Vancouver, but now I'm doing Tuscaloosa, Mexico City, the Caribbean, Kelowna (somewhere in Canada...I have no idea where, but I'm sure it's expensive to get to their aiport!), San Francisco, and NY. I guess most people graduate college in debt....I'm just one of the few who spent the money on something besides tuition and booze. Well, maybe the booze! ;)

BTW....where are all the old folks that can actually afford to do this siht? LOL!

I'm actually going to graduate on the positive side, thank you Air Force =). But I still don't exactly having much of an income so what little I do has to stretch like you said on booze and tri.

Seriously so far Portland looks like a 2nd Tuscalosa, which means that I will roundly be beaten by Matt and Catwood a 2nd time =/

It's probably best we don't tell you and you find out on your own :-)

The race site is a good hour away from Portland. I would recommend staying out in the Hillsboro or Forest Grove area. It will be alot closer to the race site and the lodging should be alot cheaper.
