Ok just cause I havent quite come down from my run yet, and am therefore in this sort of mood.

Burping with the hrm on always makes the HR drop significantly for a few seconds. Im sure youve all experienced this as well.

So... Does the hr actually drop, or does the burp cause interference with the chest strap somehow? Either way, why?

Discuss.

i have never experienced this. well i guess i should rephrase: i have never looked at my hr immediately after releasing some pressure. it is an interesting question. i am not sure why burping would have any different effect than simply breathing, but who knows.

What if you're "releasing some pressure" from the other end? Discuss.

I have never experienced this, but I would assume that it has to do with a burp causing vibrations down into you chest where the sensors are trying to pick up the beat of your heart. A burp causes just enough disurbance that it causes the heart rate monitor to not pick up every beat. Just a guess.

In getting ready for more than one workout I have had to make a pit stop to the restroom after already putting on my HR monitor. So for scientific purposes I of course wanted to see what my HR was while taking a pre-workout grumpy. Bottom line, little or no change. Not even low zone 2. I was disappointed that I could not log it as base building time.

That was my guess as well, just lookin for some other input.

You should have put "log" in quotes, unless it wasn't meant to be a pun. :)

actually, you'd be surprised what can make your hr drop. I think it has to do with the body's reflex action to drop heart rate when normal breathing suspends. HR drops dramatically in free divers for instance. I've noticed several other hr dropping anomalies which will remain undiscussed - although still strangely interesting. :)

I think the strap might lose contact due to the 'vibrations' and the flexing of hte abs you often do while burping. I have not experienced this myself (am now interested too!) but that would be my best guess.

I'm not sure this should be in this thread or a new one, but does farting cause you to accelerate? Running and in the pool?

Definetely worth discussion.

I've seen the burping hr drop, only a few bpm for a second or two. I suppose farting could cause you to accelerate, but only if you light it ;-)
