Hello from Iraq
Welcome Chris!
This is a great site, and lot's of people here to glean ideas from. I've always wanted to do Vineman ( I live in the San Jose area ) I think that's on the horizon for 2006. 2005 has CaliforniaMan with my name on it. :)
Good luck with your racing. Sounds like you have all the bases covered with the events. When you get back you just need to find a good pool and you have some of the best riding in Santa Rosa, you're going to be set-up nicely!
You might also be interested in some Xterra races or adventure races. ( I'm always pushing adventure races :) )
Take care,
-Brandon

Hello everyone,
I've been a member of this site for a while, but have yet to introduce myself. My name is Chris, I'm a sergenat in the Army currently deployed to Iraq. In about 2 weeks I will be finally returning home from a year long tour, and will be training heavily for my first triathlon thats in Florida on the 27th of Feb.
Anyway, I first heard about triathlons when I kid. My dad used to run marathons all the time, so he got me into cross country and track when I was in Jr./High school. I have always been a long distance runner and mountain biker. Although different from triathlon biking, I feel it wont take me too long to get into shape for that aspect of the tri. I used to swim all the time a few years ago when I was getting ready to try out for Delta force...but as you can tell, I didnt make it.
Being here in Iraq we get to watch ESPN and CNN on the TV's in the chow hall. During the Olympics, I was able to watch the triathlon events. And that reminded me on how much I wanted to push my body into that level of endurrance. Since then I try to run as often as I can. The gym only provides a stationary bike. so I do what I can with that. As for the swimming...well...Cant swim here, so I have doing more endurrance work outs for my muscles at the gym. I am currently scheduled to race in the Vineman classic in my hometown in California. (Well, I'm from Santa Rosa, CA ) I have the hopes of being able to sign up for more events as the months come down and hopefully go from a half iron to a full iron man by the end of the year.
