Tell me about the Fuel Belt
Good question. I'm looking to get a belt (fuel belt or amphipod) very soon, so I'm interested here.
I have the old Fuel Belt and like it alot. Not sure how the new one compares but its probably better.
I have an older amphipod 4 bottle, and a new fuel belt 2 bottle.
The only issue i have with the amphipod one is that it just doesn't get tight enough to really work for me any more (running caused that one!).
But I want more than 2 bottles -- so I have found that I can put the amphipod type bottle rests onto the Fuel belt. I will also be adding a 4-bottle fuel belt in the near future.
When tightened down well, both work great.

I use to race with the mini bottles and have switched to the Amphipod Full Tilt. It's one large bottle with a pocket that's a freaking black hole. I can stuff more crap into that pocket than looks possible. Usually the big bottles bug me from moving around. This one doesn't because of its position. I've used it for 2 full seasons now and have no complaints. It does depend on what your needs are though.

Hmmmm. Haven't even thought about the Full Tilt, but after checking it out on-line, it looks great.
I've really been pleased with the fit and comfort of my old Amphipod belt, so I'll definitely look into the Full Tilt.
Thanks for bringing in a different perspective.
I have an older 4 bottle fuel belt, and that is comfortable. This past fall I got the newer Helium 4 bottle from fuel belt and they have definitely improved it. It is even more comfortable to wear. They can now hold either the 7 oz or 8 oz bottles. I also like to use a Hydrobak from Camelback. It is very light and holds up to 1.5 liters.
Do any of those models mentioned use a bladder system. If not, does anyone use a belt with a bladder system for running.
Check out the camelbak site www.camelbak.com for backpack or waistbelt packs with bladders.

Has anyone used any of these though? I'm just wondering how well they work. It seems like it's not the ideal setup for running, but maybe it is.

My brother used one for a long time(camelbak) liked it but it bohered his back (bouncing motion while running). It also rubbed a bit. I suggested he switch to the fuel belt and he hasn't looked back since. I had similiar problems with the single bottle on my lower back. Since switching to the fuel belt, I have reduced them. LOVE the fuelbelt.

Thanks for the feedback. That's kind of what I would have suspected. That Amphipod Full Tilt looks pretty awesome. I think I might have to get one later in the year when I start to concentrate on long-distance running.

Do you have any problems with it bouncing around too much or anything? Is it pretty secure?
You can tighten down the straps to your comfort level.
I wore mine for the JFK 50 miler(I had to re-fill a few times of course)
I had no chafing or discomfort.
I found it didn't bounce that bad. In fact I didn't notice it.
I have the Camelbak Catalyst, and I like it ok. It's much more comfortable than the angled bottle in the back options. It hardly moves at all when I am running, and has a couple of pockets for gels, or whatever. Haven't felt any discomfort or chafing from it, and have worn it on an 8 mile run. It's only 0.8L, so a little minimal for really long stuff, but you could always refill.
Overall I'm pretty happy with it.... I'd recommend it if you mostly do middle-distance trail races, or training where you don't have water stops. It's probably not the best option for races, or longer trail runs.

I have 4 camelbaks two I purchased on my own for different needs and then I had two issued to me from the Air Force. They are quite comfortable imo. Just make sure you get one with the two straps that go across your waste and then across your chest and then it really won't move much at all. Though usually my camelbak goes over my flak vest so its not the camelbak that worries me about rubbing. The other nice thing is they work perfectly for a variety of other tasks, where a fuel belt could be a little odd, like say going to a sports event or during the summer months when we go tubing down the river.

Just a ditto here on the Amphipod Full Tilt. It's what I've been running with for the past couple years. The pocket does feel like a black hole, as I'll often put a couple gels, a extra pair of shorty tris for swimming, goggles, headcap, and do a nice long run to the pool and back (extra shorts are so I'm swimming in my "crummy" tri shorts in the chlorinated pool).

I currently run with an amphipod, but after serving its purpose in life very well, it is getting worn out......the velcro is finally becoming unreliable.
I don't have anything against getting a new one, but am curious as to whether anyone has any opinions one way or the other on the Fuel Belt Helium 4.
Obviously, I'd want to try on one before purchasing.
