Anybody using the Nike + ? I just saw an ad for it and it says it measures speed and distance, how really accurate is the data ? Would anybody use this over a Garmin 205 or 305 ?

i had one last year and it worked pretty well. i used it with a shoelace case that i found online because i dont run in nikes. it was fairly accurate in measuring speed/pace, distance, and calories burned. i would still be using it but it got soaked in a rainstorm and broke. since then i have been using the garmin 305 and feel that it is a much better product. there are more features and i think that the heart rate monitor is essential to monitor effective training. the software for the garmin is also more detailed and user friendly. hope this helped a bit.

I use the NIke+ since I got it for xmas- I have the Polar 625x and find it just as accurate once calibrated. If you have a nano its the cheapest way to get speed and distance. I quite like the NIke+ website comparing your results worldwide and goal setting etc. Although there is no ability to "correct" your run date I never did it anyway with my Polar.

I also use an aftermarket thingy for the shoe gadget as I run in Sauconys.

I got it for Xmas too (as did my wife). Pretty neat and the integration to the web site is very slick. The first run I did was uncalibrated and it was about 5% out which isn't too bad I reckon.

Not sure whether there's huge benefit but I'll keep using it. BTW, cut a small slit in the tongue of my Adidas to hold the pod.

I currently use the Nike + and it’s fairly accurate if you calibrate it. The biggest downside is that you can't really use it in a race because you can’t use mp3 players during events. Personally I would much rather have a 305, but if you already own a Nano, it is a fairly inexpensive alternative.

I got Nike+ for Christmas and I love it. It is pretty accurate after you calibrate it. I especially like the online community. You can view all your runs, make goals for yourself, and enter challenges with people from all around the world. Currently I am considering getting the 305 and using them together .

Having th 305 and the Nike + thought I'd way in. I'm running a fairly level course then both work fine. However I have found the greater the inclines/declines the less accurate the Nike gets since it works off foot strike which change during hills. The pros of the Nike are the website very slick, cheaper, lighter, and I like the audio cues it gives you. Downsides are accuracy (depending of course), need a Nano, no HRM option. The 305 is more accurate, more versatile (biking, hiking, etc), and is also a HRM. Downsides are cost, weight (not really that bad but sometimes noticeable), only audio cues are just beeps every once in a while. Both are good products but in the end I like the 305 more. Hope this helps.

The Nike+ might be less expensive than the 305, but you have to get the shoes with the little slot in them (or one of those ghetto little lace-mounted things), and you have to get a nano. So, you could argue that the 305 is less expensive and it's much more accurate and versatile. The only thing it doesn't have is the cool audio cues, but you can race against a virtual partner with the 305. Anyways, I'd get a 305 over the nike+ any day. Oh, btw, I have a 305 and I love it.

Since my first post. I got a 305 and would much rather have this that the Nike +. It is more accurate and way cooler than the Nike +. I have also started to enjoy running alot more when I am not listening to music.

I don't use the Nike+ thing, but my all time favorite shoes were ruined for me when they added the little pouch under the insole. I can feel it every time my foot hits the ground and it REALLY bothers me.

So, Nike Voomero 2+, I can no longer wear you, and have started buy other brands, none of which are as cushiony, or comfortable as you were in your original 'un-enhanced' form. How I miss our long Saturday morning runs together, I have even resorted to wearing your older sibling without the +, even though they are far far past their wearable range. Your cousin 'Skylon' while not +, is good, but doesn't provide the protection I need from the occasional rock on the trail.

Oh... what? Yeah, I don't like Nike+ and how it feels, and I don't own a nano or the little sensor dude that goes in my shoe!

I have the Nike + and really like it. My Polar HR S525 does not have the foot pod, and that is just fine. I can still bike and swim and run with it--and don't care to pace myself in a race, there are mile markers for that and I can do the math in my head :) gives me something to think about any way (and unless I am mistaken, which is entirely possible--you shouldnt swim with the 305, not waterproof). I do find it sucks the battery life though. I know my mileage now for most of my runs so it is really not all that necessary. I have this for the foot pod, along with the arm band for the nano --its $10 and does not look bad, no need to buy the shoes:

I have this cool thing called a stopwatch... I plan out my runs before I go, and then I don't have to worry about how far I am going. I'm trying to be a little more Zen about my pacing, and it seems to be working. The Nike+ is cool, and I think it's pretty accurate (surprising), but I think it's a bit dangerous to run with music. And, FWIW, Nike actually uses a velocity measurement device rather than foot-strike... this is why it is much more accurate than, say, a pedometer.
