Another HRM Question

I know lots of threads are out there asking about heart rate monitors, but I can't find one that answers my specific question. I am a small female (5'1") with tiny wrists - most of these HRMs are huge! I don't want to be running with a big clunky thing on my arm! Does anyone have suggestions for a smaller size/women specific size HRM?

Also, I just want a basic HRM that can keep files of all of my training sessions, can link up to my computer with infrared - but doesn't have all kinds of other things on it like bike info (cadence, speed, etc). I don't need all of those functions! I just want a simple HRM that has software that can store all of my sessions.

A friend of mine has the Polar S725 and he's always having issues with it syncing, trying to find the settings that he wants (and we're engineers, so it shouldn't be too over our heads, right?). It seems the more that's on it and the more complicated it is, the more things can go wrong with it. Same with cyclocomputers too, at least in my experience. My $20 computer works 100% of the time, while my riding buddy's $100 computer never syncs and if it does, quits in the middle of the ride!

Thanks for any advice!

I hear you on that. Though a male, I have small wrists and the Polar (while great in performance and functionality) are a little big. I've actually been using the Polar XT Trainer, a model I bought 2-3 years ago and was great for what I needed, though it didn't have infrared data syncing, it was smaller.

They do have some smaller models (the M series):
You can look at a full list here, http://polarusa.com/consumer/productfinder/productfinder.asp

Or check out the Nike models:

Definitely sleaker looking, but I haven't used or heard much about the performance yet.

Hey tribro,
Thanks for the info. I finally found a HRM that I like, fits my wrist well, and has all the functions I need - it's the Timex Ironman HRM/watch for smaller wrists in blue. The way those are - you can store your current session in the watch, but you also have to buy a seperate little data recorder that then you download to the provided software. It's great so far and I can still wear the HRM as a watch during the day. Just thought I'd update - I've had great success so far with the HRM so it's another one to keep in mind!

Yep - that's the one that I got. It's worked great so far for me. Have you downloaded info from the data recorder yet (did you buy the extra data recorder)? I just started doing that (I've been lazy in getting around to doing it). Are you happy with yours?

Actually, I ordered it on Thursday, and it hasn't arrived yet. I've had other Timex watches that I loved, but never an HRM. I didn't buy the data recorder, but I might if I can find a deal. I'm more interested in my data during the workout than doing post-workout analysis. Anyway, I'll post an update once I get the thing.

Just got my watch, and I'm loving the look and feel. The HRM works great too. Do you recommend getting the data recorder? It's as expensive as the watch itself.

I have the data recorder and would recommend it but it depends on what your goals are. Do you want to track your workouts? And your resting heart rate? I've worn my HRM all night long with the data recorder on so I can track my resting heart rate while I sleep over a few nights and I plan on doing that throughout my training to see if it goes down (hopefully) or up (meaning I could possibly be overtraining) and also so I can figure out my working heart rate while I train in case I need to adjust it throughout the training.

But if you just want to be able to see your heart rate only during your workouts and don't plan on tracking them and looking at them charted out, then I wouldn't buy the data recorder. It is expensive, but for me, it's definitely worth it! I hope this helps!
