How windy is too windy?
Well as long as there are no overpasses, and its just a slow 50 miler you should be fine with anything less than a hurricane.
haha....thanks tyler
I only postpone a ride if the wind is enough to blow me off the bike which, for me, takes gusts over 40 mph. I just think of it as a great resistance workout. It's like riding up a mountain.
Just man up and head out the door.
Ride into the wind for the first part of the ride then light it up on the way home;)
yea I mean its not the headwind that keeps me away from the workout its just the sidewinds that give me a scare. Had a pretty scary event the other day going over the highway on an overpass and nearly got blown off over the edge.
Yesterday we got pummeled pretty hard on the central california coast. I ran in it, but did not ride.
Today it continued pretty hard - probably 20 sustained on the coast with mean gusts. Stupid stupid riding conditions, but the view of 30 ft waves crashing on the ocean made it worth it.
Typically, when it's windy here I head into the hills for shelter or at the very least plan my routes with a backup shortcut in case it gets too hairy. My cutoff is when weather.com says 17 or 18mph. I find riding in the wind to be too demoralizing - working hard and not going anywhere - so it's better for my psyche to swim, run or rest. Exception being drills - I sometimes like to head easy easy into the wind 15 minutes, turn to put it to my back and do some speedwork intervals.

Winds 20+ is pretty common around here - so will always head out into it. Cuz it will be windy on race day too.
Crazy wind - gusting into the 40's will keep me home.

It really depends on where I am riding. If my route is a road, I will stay inside on the trainer instead. The only reason I have the dang thing is for rain, lightning, or wind. We frequesntly get CRAZY winds in the "winter" and spring around here.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
It depends on how cold it is. I am more concerned with the wind chill than the strength of the wind. However, it doesn't get to windy where I live unless it is the winter, so I usually with stay inside only if it is below 40 degrees and windy or if we are having wind gusts reaching about 30-35mph.

OK so I was just wondering if you guys ever postpone a workout a day or too because of a very high amount of wind. Me and my buddys were out yesterday with winds around 25 mph and it was just rediculous. So today weather says winds at 22 with gusts up to 30. So I'm probably gonna postone the long ride due to safety sake. Just wondering if you guys think thats a good idea or if I should just man up and head out the door
