seatpost problem
Stupid question: have you completely removed the bolt/collar from the top of the seat tube? I ask because I have a bike where I cannot move the seatpost without doing this.
yes, i have the bolt/collar removed
Rather than give you my bad advice, I'd say call your local bike shop and they'll know what to do.

I second the suggestion to take it in to the shop. It could be that you got a badly sized/mismarked post, or you could have some other issues. You can do real damage to a bike frame if you aren't careful when working with the seat tube, so you'll save a lot of potential heartache by letting them look at it.
ok so here is how i solved this problem... my downtube is much larger than the seatpost so there is a shim to get it down to size. the seatpost was binding in one specific area of this shim. i greased the heck out of it and dipped the shim in hot water to loosen it up ever so slighly. this allowed me to get the post in without damaging it. hopefully this does not cause any problems.
I was going to ask if you remembered to take out the old seatpost first! :D

so i just got back from vacation and in my eagerness to get my new seapost on i have run into a problem... my new post is 27.2, the same as my old...but the new will not go in past about 2 cm. any ideas how to get this to fit correctly? i have cleaned/greased the post.
