I'll start. I might not have super high numbers, but in terms of consistency, quality, and structure, and race results, this was my best year ever. There's a thread somewhere where we listed our goals for 2007 and I made all of those except for sub 1:10 bike split, but I can't find the thread anymore.

2007 Stats

Training Stats

2007
Total hours: 324.75
Goals:

  1. Complete Oly Tri. done: Lancaster family YMCA
  2. Swim 1 mile under 28 min. done: 24:29!! That was 3:30 faster than my best 1500y for the previous year, and longer
  3. Average over 22mph during a bike leg. done: Catfish sprint tri: just over 23mph on my rickety old trek from the 80's which broke 3 days after the race!

Races

  1. 5 mile trail run - 16th/65
  2. 100k bikeathon (not actually a race, but longest ride to date)
  3. 15 mile bike road race - 15th/50
  4. Catfish Sprint - 9th/230, 1st AG
  5. Sprint duathlon - 28th/45? Terrible!
  6. War at the Shore sprint - 11th/209, 3rd AG
  7. Lancaster Family Oly - 45th/237, 3rd AG
  8. 4 other running road races from 5k to 10k. Nothing respectable due to only 34.5 hours of running in the year.

2008
Goals

  1. 500 hours
  2. complete HIM - June 2nd
  3. consistency! (Follow cat's target of no weeks under 5 hours)
  4. fall Marathon- probably Philly on 11/23
  5. win a race :-)

Racing UFTriGator - he did it in 26. Non-wetsuit swim, all you do is run to your bike, drop your cap and goggles, put your helmet on and run (shoes clipped on).

2007 was a great year !! My best yet.
6 triathlons and I placed in my ag in half of them
3 bike events
1 half marathon.

Training was better in terms of volume and intensity.
100,000 yds swimming up from 80 last year
828 miles running (my weakest link)
5,100 miles biking up from 4,000 the year before

Regrets: I had to not attempt my half IM..(Longhorn, in Austin) due to my wife's surgery.
The half has eluded me several times but this year...yes, this year...I have already signed up for Buffalo Springs in June. And who knows about the IM possibilities out there.

In 2007 I did races I have done before and set bike PRs in 3 of the 6 events and set my bike overall pace PR this year. Good news too, I am moving to another Age group...the 65-69 this year since my birthday is in December. I am excited about this year...and to say I feel blessed isn't even enough.

2007 was awesome for me! Especially compared to 2006, in which I would have totalled 0 in all categories.
2007 totals:
273 miles running
570 miles biking
15,000 yards swimming

I did 4 5K races, 2 sprint triathlons and then broke my foot.

2008 is looking good for me. I've been running 5 times a week, biking 3 times per week and feeling good doing it.

2008 goals:
1 duathlon
2 sprint triathlons
2 olympic triathlons
5 or so, 5k races
1 half marathon

Targets:
- 20 minute 5K time.
- Placing in my age group in atleast 1 sprint.
- Finish an olympic triathlon feeling good!
- Swim, swim, swim. I really layed off the swim and I'm spent only 6 total hours doing this part. I'm going to double or triple that this year.

Just getting back into things in 2007 after YEARS of doing nothing. I'm very proud of what I accomplished in 2007. Not to mention I shed my 6'2" 220lb body down to 6'2" 190lb.

Swim 285,000 yds.
Bike 3,975 miles.
Run 1,080 miles (300 in last 3 months).
Total Time 522 hrs.

Only did 3 triathlons in 2007.
1 Olympic (2:12)
WV Mountaineer Half IM (5:17)
IM Wisconsin (11:45).

Goals for 2008:
1. Race more. If I'm training this much should be racing more, after all that's what we're here for, right. There are a bunch of local sprints/olympics I skipped last year and will do next year.
2. Run more. Hampered by achilles injury last year, run suffered. Never ran more than 33 miles in a week before IMWI. Longest run was 14 miles, most weeks were under 20 mpw. Rested last October and have built up to 45+ mpw over last 2 months, with long runs every Sunday now I am up to 19 miles at sub 8min miles, so run is really much better than last year. Have several 20 milers planned between now and VA beach marathon in March.
3. Go sub 5hrs at WV HIM.
4. Knock AT LEAST 1 hr off IMWI time, hopefully much more!
5. Have fun (oops, already put that in #1).
6. Survive the TTT.

2008 Main Races:
VA Beach Shamrock Marathon

Is your kilt all "worn out" then?

Lots of us have bike totals in the 4000 range, run total around 1,000, but I seem to be two or three hundred kms behind almost everybody in the swim total!

'course hacking through the lake ice to get in a swim might have something to do with it.
heh.

2007 was my first year training. At first, when I looked at my numbers, I thought I didn't do much. But I met my goals, and I now know what to expect!

Total Bike: 1 024k (636 Mi)
Total Swim: 63 762 m
Strength: 21:25 hours
Core: 17:20 hours
Did a 5000m straight swim for arthritis in 1h45
Did a 50k bike ride (my biggest ride of the year) for heart and stroke foundation
Did my first triathlons (2 sprints relays doing swim/bike because I can't run) and didn't arrive last!
Stayed injury-free

2008 Goals:
More Biking to get under 1h00 for 30k
Improve my swimming to get consistently under 2:00/100m
Races/events:
5000m for arthtiris
75k for heart and stroke foundation
1 open water swimming event
2 sprint triathlon relays (doing swim/bike)
1 olympic triathlon relay (doing swim/bike)
If all goes well, 1 half-iron Aquabike (this one is not a certainty, I would see it more like a big bonus at the end of the season)
More yoga and strength training
Of course stay injury-free

Yeah, congrats beads, I sort of overlooked that and it reminds me of something I wanted to say about 2008 goal-setting.

Triathletes have been known to be obsessive sometimes. heh.

It would be easy to get carried away with triathlon training goals to the exclusion of the rest of our lives and to pay a penalty for that, - either in falling short of our tri-goals because life got in the way, or in losing something in our lives because we were too busy obsessing about the last workout, or the next one.
So try to find some balance in 2008, stay healthy, physically and mentally.

Happy 2008 everyone!
