My existing cadence/speed meter was installed on my tribike when I bought it. I've now upgraded - I got the cadence and speed meter for my Forerunner, and I'm looking to install the power meter for my new Kinetics road machine. the last time I installed a speed sensor, I seem to remember (It was more than 10 years ago) a lot of concern about getting the magent and sensor mounted in an exact position on the wheel.

It seems that none of the manuals for the new equipment seem to care about where you mount the magnet and reader. Has there been a change on this point, or am I remembering something incorrectly. It seems overly simple to mount this stuff now. Does that seem correct?

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

assuming you're talking about the magnet on the front wheel? if so should be fine. the setting is usually in the computer as to the distance of one wheel rotation so where it falls on the wheel isn't critical as long as it reads each revolution.

I believe thats what he's talking about, but is worried about the position of the magnet in relation to the sensor, not the distance along the spoke. But if not, what Tribro said is correct.

If the instructions aren't clear, I would just figure it out experimentally. Attach the magnet where you think it needs to be, and if the sensor doesn't read it then adjust accordingly. I don't have any experience with those particular sensors so I can't be of much more help.

I was indeed concerned about how far up on the spoke in relation to the hub the magnet is mounted. I see now that once you enter the code for the wheel size, the units adjust automatically. My memory may be faulty, but I seem to remember from year's ago installation that I had to measure exactly 18 inches from the center of my bolt. But again, could be dusty memory.

I got it figured out now, thanks guys!

There shouldn't be an exact distance away from the hub you need to mount the magnet. All the magent does it count the number of revolutions the wheels makes and using the circumfrance of the wheel, it calculates the speed. you just don't want to place it so close to the hub that it can't read individual revolutions.
