I've been using a 3 strike exhale and 2 strike inhale. What do you use when your running?

Wow. Are we supposed to think about how we breath when we run? I think about how I breath during swimming. But have never thought about breathing while running. Seems like during the run in any distance tri there is something else to consider rather than how I'm breathing:
sprint - will I puke before or after I cross the line;
olympic - this run seems to be lasting forever is this really only 6 miles;
HIM - half of something long is still really long, keep that pace steady and don't over do it on the fluids, but be sure to stay hydrated;
IM - is that a hunger pain or a cramp in my stomach? Is now too soon to pick up the pace? etc.

Just breath naturally that's what is recommended or what i've read in several running books.

In 37 years of running I've never heard of such a thing! Breathe. Period. Your body will respond to an increase in effort by automatically changing your breathing. Don't over think this. Just run and breathe naturally.

I'm with MITri guy:

with the exception of attempting to not hyperventilate and occasionally slowing down the breathe for afew seconds (usually more about calming yourself than the actual breathing) just let your breath happen

as someone who is not a good swimmer, let me encourage to enjoy the freedom to breathe at will :)
