I'm a poor uni student and im thinking of doing an IM in 9 months (hopefully). I have a mountain bike and if i bought a race bike might as well be a tri bike.
I have a pretty short inseam (26-27 inches, short legs). Any suggestions?
Also, i was checking out trifuels training plans and the IM one looked fine. It says for ironman most of my training runs should be done at below 75 HR. Is this true?
Thx :P

It probably means 75% of your max HR. I think my HR is higher than 75 when I walk, which isn't the best thing for IM training. LOL.

The tri bike with the most bang for the buck is usually a couple years old from craigslist or ebay or something.

Buying a tri bike isn't just about buying a bike, it's about the fit as well. Having an unusual physical build is going to make fit more important. Although buying a bike off of Ebay or CL can save you money, if you buy the wrong bike, you're going to have problems. I would maybe think about looking at shops that have 2007 or 2006 models they want to dump.

Alright, any one know any bikes that support smaller inseams and so i assume that my heart rate should usually be below 75 when training?

Your inseam isn'r really hugely important since you can raise and lower the seat. Because you have short legs, I would guess that you'd ride a size larger than most people your height in order to get the top tube the right length. As for specific ones, try out a few and see if you can get them to fit.

You want your HR way above 75 when training. My recovery rides are about 125, base is usually high 130s to low 150s, and I push up to 190 sometimes during the season. I also have a low HR, so most people I train with will be higher than that (especially at the high end...I've heard 220+ from some guys). The 75 is a percentage of your max probably, meaning that if your max is 200 (typical number, most likely within 10 beats of your actual), you shouldn't go above 150. But that's only for base training. If you're doing IM stuff, that'll be a very large part of your training.

Oh i'm such a dummy. It was in the FAQ. What was written was that i should do most of the race with my heart rate below 75 MAX.
Alright then no problem, just training as usual. I have a background in karate and some triathlons (just never an IM) so the HR thing is no problem. I was just confused since i thought it said i should train for one at below 75 percent of max HR.
I will go check out some bikes, but anyone have any ideas in particular that would have a long top tube compared to saddle height or whatever?
thx

Since I'm still using a road bike, I've look around at tri bikes and I really think the Felt S32 is the best buy for a low level tri bike. But you have to look around.
