very nice article and detailed approach to racing. the PM is an excellent tool for pacing and every tri head should have one.

I'm sitting in the nuclear lab doing fuel storage neutron multiplication simulations that take forever each time I click "run", so I had nothing better to do than read technical articles on cycling. :) I can't post full articles (they're like $40 apiece), but the abstracts work just fine. They're about 100 times more useful than that crappy MIT wind-tunnel test that everyone references.
Triguy's trip to San Fran made me think of this, and if you don't feel like reading, here's the Gator synopsis for your reading enjoyment:
1. You go faster on a hilly with the same average power if you increase power uphill and decrease power downhill when compared to a constant power output the whole time. (1st article uses computer simulation, 2nd uses actual cyclists on computrainer thingys)
2. This doesn't make you any more tired than just going constant effort the whole way. (3rd article)
