I'm going to Alcatraz!
Congrats man, better start doing more hill work

Base 1 (Week 2, 16.5hrs)
Check out my blog!
I just looked at the profile. The ride actually doesnt look too scary. I DO need to do the hill work on the run! I think the water temp is what bothers me the most. Anyone ever swim in a drysuit? :D

Awesome! (And congrats on the honeymoon thing too).
Yep, work on hills, stairs, and maybe a bit of running in deep sand (there's a good strech of beach about 3.5 miles in).
Once you get through the initial shock, the swim is actually the easiest part. I would also highly recommend hitting Aquatic Park a few days before the race to test out the water temperature.
My wife & I did the race last year. PM me if you want any gory details.
Awesome, man! I'm trying to make it, too....hopefully I'll see you out there! I'd say let's fly together, but the whole honeymoon thing might make it a bit awkward for me....
Congrats! I guess you'll be spending more time in St. Ann this winter and spring, huh?

Not fast enough.
A bit more hills, yes! Mondays, too. Good stuff! But this bumps FL 70.3 as my A race. I dont think I am destined to do a half ever in my life, stuff keeps happening every time I try.

meh....I'd rather go to Alcatraz anyway.
Besides, the gays there probably like all the spandex, so you don't have to worry about people throwing carpet tacks on the course and causing crashes like at FL 70.3. LOL!

Not fast enough.
Hotel is booked! Got the rooms at Yosemite booked, too. My ass feels like it just got reamed. Even the plastic on the credit card feels lighter.

Good on you...Have fun and train well...But I'd be more excited about going to "The Valley!"

Congrats on getting in to the race. I'm jealous.
Hey, congratulations. I did Alcatraz 2 years ago and it was the greatest race of my life. The swim was just indescribably awesome! PM me if you have any questions. My race report is up over at beginner triathlete if you are interested.

Congrats! Mike has done that one... here are the 2 biggest things he said to share:
- There will be people who tell you what direction to swim. Listen to them. They swim it all the time and know the currents. You will be seeming to aim somewhere weird, but otherwise you overshoot the finish area and it's impossible to swim back up against the current.
- Be alert on the bike and run. The bike will be very crowded and has some tight corners so be ready for that. The run has some single track, and there are people going both ways -- like pros heading downhill at a 5min pace. So be aware there, too.
He figures you'll already know about the sand ladder on the run, etc. I'm sure I'll talk to you before the race, so just let me know if you have other questions to pass on :)

Congratulations! I was also in the random drawing but didn't get picked. Perhaps in February i'll get lucky. I did this race several years ago and just had a blast. The course is very challenging. The water that day was very, very choppy and of course "the stairs". Have a great time everyone and just maybe i'll see you out there.
Hot Damn! I guess I'll be seeing you out actually tri training soon ;) That's awesome Triguy!

I have the most rotten luck out of anyone. I never win drawings or prizes. Ever. Except once, when I was not at work the day the announced I won tickets to the Pepsi 400 (with pit passes and the whole works.) And no one called me. So I missed the race.
So I was laughing at myself for bothering to enter the Alcatraz lottery. "Gonna be in San Fran for the honeymoon anyway, so I might as well" I told myself. Well, I just got the email. I... AM... IN!!! Holy cow!!!!!
One excited triathlete here!
