Tyler Hamilton: should they take away his gold?

I was reading a little bit last night and it seems quite apparent that tyler hamilton is guilty. Both his A and B sample tested positive for an illegal blood transfusion at that one race. Then at the olympics his A sample tested positive, but they say the B won't test positive because it was frozen. Hamilton is saying that the test is inaccurate. But if 3 out of 4 samples are found guilty, how can he not be? Yet, he insists he will fight this till the end and not give up his olympic gold. Is there any way he really can be innocent? I wish and hope that he is, but it seems doubtful. And if he is guilty, it is terrible that he won't admit it. At least Nina Kraft felt bad eneugh to admit it right away.

I'd like to think a rider of his talents wouldn't need to use blood doping. On one hand the failed tests sure make it look like he is guilty. But from what I've read there are some issues with how reliable the tests are.

While I hope he's clean, I can't say for sure. As it was pointed out, the testing procedures and the quality of that lab are at least somewhat questionable. Read Tyler's side of the story at Tylerhamilton.com

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Tyler Hamilton is susch a talented athlete, I also hope that it's just the test that are inaccurate, instead of him trying not to look guilty and keep denying. If you do use somthing and you get caught.. your mistake. Be a man ( or woman ..Nina) and just get it over with. At least then you keep credability by admitting. Although, maybe the thought of losing your gold medal will do strange things to you.

the test that they got him on do not even have a study behind them to validate the number of false positives. you cant trust the europeans when it comes to testing american athletes. When Lemond had won the tour, the Tour director told Lemond to watch everything he did, watch what he ate, he had to finger print his samples etc ...
Plus if he was doing what they said he would need a whole team of people involved, just where was he getting this blood, where was he getting the supplies to inject it who ..... none of these people have stepped foward.

I stuck behind Ben Johson. He was Canada's hero it had to be a mistake as far as I was concerned.

When it was proven to be true... He deflatted the whole country and is the reason there is such stringent dope testing going on here in Canada.

Chuck -

As a Phoenician, I wanted to personally thank you for Steve Nash - I bet he'd make an amazing triathlete. If I see him around town, I'll try to plant a bug in his ear.

As for Hamilton, I agree with ChrisTri - the Europeans have proven to be willing to stoop to very low levels to discredit American/North American riders. Let's not forget, the panel voted 2:1 - there WAS one person of the three who thought that the results were questionable. Alas, we'll never know.

I do not agree in your argumentation that it was the europeans fault. First of all let me say that I am a great Tyler fan. He is a great cyclist! I absolutely believe him and still do not remove any of the posters showing him winning Liege-Bastogne-Liege and his Tour stage.
He was not the only one tested positive, Perez from Spain was also positive on blood doping.
Nina Kraft said during 2003 Ironman Hawaii: "They do not want a german to win here" because she received a penalty. She claimed that she has been riding alone the entire time.
Hey, this is sport, it should not be about politics!
I like american and canadian athletes, ride an canadian bike, wear american sunglasses, support a danish cycling team, enjoy an italian Cyclist in the Giro (Basso).
And the day Lance said he was going to quit was very, very sad. Seeing him being spit on by dutchmen makes me feel bad.
Listen, there might be people judging others because of their origin, but we shall not be among them! We are athletes and shall receive respect for our results, not for our countries.
I hope you get what I want to say.

I am sorry, I cannot follow you with this point. I have heard about the book, but I did not read it.
He was accused, but his tests are negative ever since.

This is what I juft found on the net.
I do agree with every single point Jens states according Lance. This is the best interview a read for a very, very long time.
Jens is definitely a great athlete, and although we are getting off-topic (this was about Tyler first) I will post the link.
